Student Iep Reflection

As a general educator, I have the privilege of teaching one student with an IEP. His conduct and difficulty staying on task is what mostly interferes with his learning. He gets frustrated at times when given an unfamiliar task he isn’t able to independently complete. Because of this, I make it a priority to continuously monitor his progress on classwork and to provide him with affirmation when he’s putting in significant effort, and redirection when he is off task. Although I have learned to ignore certain behaviors from this scholar (calling out), I have provided him with an individual behavior plan so that he knows I am still holding him responsible for certain actions (such as hitting another student).

To begin, the student log assignment enabled me to monitor one of my scholars closely, which allowed me to see that he was motivated by praise and needed an individualized behavior plan. I continue to positively narrate this scholar behavior and utilize his behavior tracker to put him in control of his own actions. Interviewing a SPED teacher was another assignment in this module that was beneficial. The interview I conducted helped me to understand that before a student can be referred to the IEP team, he or she must first be evaluated by SST (Student Support Team). In order to effectively advocate for a student that may benefit from an IEP, it is important to track interventions that were put in place for the student and what the outcomes of those interventions were.
The experiences in this module has provided me with the knowledge and resources needed to advocate for my students with special needs. As I continue to work with my scholars, I will make their voice heard in the classroom by positively narrating them and praising their effort. Through my continuous collaboration with other professionals, I will provide my scholars with resources need to address their attention deficit. I will continuously work to build a positive relationship with my scholars and see to it that 100% of them are making some academic

    Thank you Lauren, for updating Savod Green's IEP. As a team we observed his behaviors escalating during a certain periods of times, which are in the morning during ELA when he is hyperactive along with him being hungry.
