How do each of the major components of IDEA Law (individualized educational plan, least restrictive environment, protection in evaluation procedures, and due process) affect assessment practices?
Assessment practices have positively been impacted by (IEP) Individualized Education Plans, Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), protection in evaluation procedures and due process provisions. All provisions have made the process of assessment more ethical, non-discriminatory, and fair. It has also open way to clear measurable goals and higher standards of assessment.

This principle relates to the students and the families right to participate in all the decisions that affect student’s future and that students have the right to decide for themselves. Even if the student in unable to give voluntary consent, assistants must protect the students best interest. An example that relates to this principle is the discussion teachers have during their lunch hour. Many teachers tend feel comfortable during lunch hour discussing their personal life. It is inappropriate when the conversation relates to the student’s life, challenges or academics. This is an unethical practice; teachers should never discuss the student’s life or academic challenges with other professionals that are not involved in the student plan of intervention. As school become more diverse professionals must be aware of their capacities and knowledge. It is our responsibility to demonstrate sensitivity in working with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds and with children who have different types of disabilities. For example, working with students with special needs requires training and understanding of the different types of disabilities. If any professional has had the training but does not feel comfortable working in this environment, then it would be best to inform their superior in order to make the necessary changes. Being honest with ourselves will benefit the children and it will ultimately make us happy
