Case Study: Observed Behavior Intervention Team

Observed Behavior Intervention Team meeting occurred at Pulaski High School October 19, 2015 at 9:15 am. Four members of the Behavior Intervention Team met. The members included the school psychologist, two teachers, and a support staff. The team met to discuss a male student in the 11th grade. Background history indicates ongoing IEP services for OHI in math and ADHD with deficits in executive functioning. The team met to discuss the need for a Behavior Intervention Plan to be put in place as a preventive measure. The team identified several problematic behaviors that cause concern. Examples of the behaviors of concern were defiance, displays of internalizing behaviors, non-completion of assignments, and statements such as “You don’t know what is going on!” or “You don’t understand.” The team’s interest in this student stemmed from a personality conflict between the student and his Geometry teacher. A lateral move was made to remove student from that teacher’s class and place him in another Geometry class. The change removed the student from the conflict, but also removed him from the co-teaching services. …show more content…
The team did not recommend a functional behavioral assessment be completed at this time; however, the team did request his IEP goals be “tweaked” to reflect updated accommodations and document the outcome of the informal behavioral meeting. They agreed to monitor him. If concerns continued to arise after interventions were in place to proceed with Functional Behavioral Assessment at a later date. It was noted by his teacher that his IEP and IEP goals would need to be amended to reflect adjusting the SOL accommodations to allow the segmenting to occur in class and on testing. Moreover, clarification was needed to address the statement which left room for the team to hold an informal behavioral intervention
