Stereotypes Of Women In Media Essay

In modern society, women’s roles are changing from the traditional roles to more modernize roles; however, child care is still considered a role in the lives of women. Nevertheless women continues to be stereotype as women who are gentle, kind, and obedient to the opposite sex. But not all women fit this criterion in the society. At the same time, women are stereotyped as good child care taker but not all women will find children lovable. When it comes to stereotyping, individuals of the society should first observed the period changed and how stereotyping affects others as it will not applied to everyone. According to Stephanie N. Berberick, who is the author of “The Objectification of Women in Mass Media: Female Self-Image in Misogynist Culture”, women are being exploited as they are being reduced to nothing but objects to be won by men (Berberick). It reveals that media chooses to not represent women as they are the less superior group and only choose to represent women as an object. When it comes to media, they only want to represent something that can bring reputation and profits to them which is women’s feminine side. Rather than showing women’s true self they preferred the less superior side of women. At the same time, media’s representation of women leads other individuals in the society to stereotype other women to be the same as those shown on the media. But that is not the case, as women are individuals who have many sides to them and not just the feminine side. Nevertheless, media continues to underrepresent women and it increases the chance of women being stereotype more by the society.
