Miss Representation Summary

Before watching Miss Representation, I had never realized or paid attention to how much negativity the media has on women. I was aware of criticisms women face in their daily lives, but I really never thought there could be something stimulating those criticisms, such as the media. Women are taught at a young age that they should look a certain way and the media plays a major role in reminding women what they should look like. No matter how much we would try to avoid getting in contact with any type of media, we really cannot escape it. It is literally everywhere, where we want it or not. For example, I am not a big fan of social media but the first thing I regularly do when I wake up is checking my Facebook or Instagram account. To achieve this, women need to acknowledge feminism as one platform for women to get more powerful. For instance, I was once asked if I was a feminist and without giving it any thought, I replied “yes, but not that kind of feminist”. At that time, I regarded feminism as a belief that wants to destroy a man’s image, but it is rather a way for women to positively build their image. I remember that one guy who asked me that question got surprised to hear what I said and he answered that he is glad that I am not crazy and all. Yes, I admit that few feminists may employ unethical methods for their voices to be heard, but it certainly does not mean women have to fear to be judged because they are feminists too. Whether women want it or not, they are all feminists at some point or another. Identifying with the feminism movement, women are giving value to themselves and therefore proving the media and men that only women have the power and right to define who they
