Speech Pathologist Goals

My future plans of becoming a speech pathologist can be accredited to my summer trips to inner city Baltimore, Maryland as a mentor and counselor for the Agape House Ministries. Through my encounters with a diverse group of children and an environment that was entirely new to me, I realized that I am passionate about not only these children, but children in general. In my lifetime, I want to impact as many children as possible, particularly by helping them work through speech and cognitive issues as a speech-language pathologist. However, in order to eventually reach this goal, I will first need a college education. Education not only qualifies a person to work in the field of their choice, but it also allows them to see different points of view, and ultimately decide which way of thinking that they will adopt as their own. My education has a lot to do with my decision to pursue speech pathology. First of all, my membership in the Health Science Academy at my school was what originally sparked my interest in therapy. The teachers in the academy have been extremely compassionate and inspiring, and they have taught me to appreciate everything that I …show more content…
Since I have grown up in a place where most people agree with one another both politically and religiously, it will be very different to be in a diverse environment, where people believe anything and everything. I think that through my college experience, I will find out who I truly want to be in life, both as a learner and as an individual. When I come home with my Bachelor’s degree, I will have found myself, and decided what I plan to do to impact my society. I have a small idea now, but I think that through college, I will be able to develop that idea into something much bigger, and make a difference in the world, and that is why I want a college
