Special Education Populations: A Case Study

The special population I have selected is special education. Often behavior analyst need to collaborate with other professionals. There are some unique ethical guidelines that need to be addressed and followed when implementing a behavior intervention with special education clients/students. It may be necessary to have multidiscipline team. Multidiscipline teams can consist of parents, behavior analyst, social worker, speech/occupational therapist. Furthermore, there needs to be considerations when communicating or collaborating with other staff or professionals. We must consider and protect the clients Protective Health Information (PHI). We must remove any identifiers that might disclose the clients PHI information to protect our clients identify.
Social validity is important to special education populations because the need to help these clients become as independent as possible. Our goals are to help special education clients reach social acceptable behaviors. In reality most special education population want to be just like other peers their age. To help this population integrate with other peers in academic and extra circum activities such as art, dance, music and P.E. Determining a regular schedule (day, time, and what location in school setting) is often best for the client and educational staff. This is practical because you don’t want to interfere with the child’s academic time. However, this may be a practical time if this co-exists with the client’s behavior plan. Often children with special education populations have sensory integration problems. They may have lunch in their classroom due to the loud noise in the cafeteria with other peers.
