Should Teachers Have Guns In Schools

Improved Essays
I believe teachers should have guns. Teachers need them. “There have only been 11 weeks in this year and there have already been 17 school shootings. That’s a little more than one a week” (CNN). We need to put a stop to that. If a shooter came to my school I would not be able to do anything and neither would my teachers. We would just have to hide in fear hoping that they would not find us. So many young people are losing their lives because of one person shooting out the school. This is not right. I recommend that in order to be a teacher you need some experience with a gun (Like a lesson). CNN puts it that they need “at least 80 hours of use of force.” I’m not even saying every teacher needs a gun. Maybe one teacher in every hall could have

By implementing background checks, closing loopholes in existing laws, and promoting responsible gun ownership practices, policymakers can contribute to a safer environment for students, educators, and communities. Together, these alternative approaches offer a holistic and cautious structure for addressing school safety concerns while preserving the integrity of the educational environment. This argument to arm teachers raises a whole set of issues and challenges to be taken seriously. First and foremost is the massive financial and logistical costs that the policy would entail. The process of providing firearms, training, and providing ongoing support for teachers would require great commitment of resources, again taking away from underfunded areas in education.…

97% of school shootings are intentional and 30% of school shootings occur on school ground(homicidecenter.com). One of the reasons the percentage is not higher is because the shooters think of the fact that teachers might be armed and decide not to shoot the school. An argument that might be made is that it might not stop the shooter, but even if the idea of armed teachers doesn't stop the shooter, the teachers that are armed can take the shooter down before they injure or kill a lot of…

Much of the authority over whether to allow guns in schools rests at the state and local levels. In Ohio, school boards are allowed to arm school personnel but are not required to notify the public that they have done so. In some states, teachers and other employees can carry a gun without anyone’s knowledge, including that of school authorities, so long as they hold a valid concealed-carry permit. No one knows how many schools in the United States have armed teachers or staff members. It was a free three day gun class in Rittman k-12 public school employees offers by the Buckeye Firearms.…

In an age where people are trying to take guns away from law-abiding citizens; we need our guns now more than ever. Everytime there is a mass shooting this debate pops up, yet we continue to have mass shootings. If some teachers were allowed to conceal and carry guns in schools, mass shootings would dwindle. The resource officer at the Parkland shooting never went inside and 17 children died, meanwhile, the resource officer at the Maryland school shooting engaged the shooter and saved countless lives. This illustrates the effects that a capable person with a gun can have on saving the lives of children.…

If a student’s intent on hurting people they would know who would have a gun and how to get it. Also school officials are not the police, they have not been trained for these types of situations and can do more harm than good. The police can respond calmly than someone who is not used to being in these situations. Teachers should not be leaping in and start shooting away trying to fight the attacker, they should be trying to get the students away safely. More guns being fired is not the solution in a mass shooting and would likely bring more casualties and be harmful than intended originally.…

There are many benefits of teachers being able to carry guns on school property. A gun on school property can deter a shooter by letting them know they won’t be the only person with a gun and people at this school are trained on how to properly use them in stressful situations. Teachers having guns also allows for faster response, this is a major benefit because now school personal do not have to wait to be “saved”. Lastly students and family will feel safer if active shooter situations arise, knowing they can be protected. Feeling safe and secure will allow staff and students the ability to stay calmer during the experience.…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…

These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them.…
