Argumentative Essay: Should Students Have Guns In School?

Improved Essays
There was blood flying everywhere as two students got into a fight at school one day. One of the students were punching the other students when he got a black eye, and blood went everywhere on the floor. When the teacher noticed the fight, she grabbed her gun out of the classroom and panicked accidently shooting one of the students. Teachers shouldn't have guns in school because other students could find it and use it on other students. There has been a huge number of school shootings in America.

The dangers associated with allowing teachers to have guns on the property creates “diminished safety for students, faculty, staff, and visitors” (The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, 2000, p.2). The most prominent concerns reasonably revolve around both “mental illness… and the misuse of firearms” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 1). Higher risk levels of injuries and fatalities occur when firearms are used improperly, and a vast number of people are uneducated on the proper handling of defense weapons. Perhaps a teacher’s mental instability could be unleashed on an irritating student by an easily accessed bullet rather than a simple scolding. The opposing side is very skeptical of the sanity and morals of teachers and their possession of guns in the classroom.…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…

School/campus shootings have altered American history greatly over the past two decades. From 1997 to 2007, there have been more than 40 school shootings, resulting in over 70 deaths and many more injuries. School shoot-outs have been increasing in number dramatically in the past 20 years (Should Guns). There are no boundaries as to how old the child would be, or how many people they may kill or injure. Students easily get provoked and who knows how dangerous they can be if they have concealed handgun.…

Guns on Campus The issue being debated claims that gun possession with students and staff on a school campus could either harm or protect innocent people. The debate suggests that either guns should not be allowed on campus at all or there should be limitations on where they would be allowed. There have been some who believe there are instances in different colleges that have had situations that it would have been critical for them to have had a hand gun on them at the time. Amanda Collins argues that because of a state ban on concealed handguns on public college campuses had left her vulnerable to a man who raped her at the University of Nevada at Reno.…

These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them.…
