Banning Guns Persuasive Speech

Improved Essays
On an average day in the United States 93 americans are killed by gun violence. There are also 1000’s of cases that involve a child being injured or killed by a stray bullet every year. Does this mean that guns are dangerous or does it mean we are using guns for the wrong intention? There are many reasons people use guns but like everything else some people use it for good and some for evil. Since the United States can't take away all of our guns I feel there should be some guns you should be able to purchase at your local store for self-defense or hunting and there are also some guns in which you should go through heavy background checks to be able to purchase. I think we should ban the purchase of the AK-47 and other guns in that class as …show more content…
Every time there is a mass shooting some people call the NRA and tell them there needs to be an increase in regulation for these guns so they can stop gun violence but what they don't understand is that guns have been around for so long that mostly everyone already owns a gun and once someone owns a gun you can't take it from them. If they completely banned guns I feel that would be much more dangerous as there will still be a black market for guns just like anything else that's illegal. Banning guns completely is a terrible idea because now if a robber gets his hands on a gun from the black market he can hold up any store around and what is the store owner going to do? All he will be able to do is call the police and hope he doesn't get shot. This is why I feel we should never ban guns completely because by doing that you really make everyone more likely to be hurt via a …show more content…
These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them. In conclusion I feel that everyone is entitled to their 2nd amendment but what will make everyone safe is the heavy background checks to make sure you are not a potential deadly person. Even if you tried to wipe out all the guns in America there would still be the black market or even private sales of illegal firearms. Now this is a question for you, who kills people? The gun or the HUMAN behind the

In an article called “Does Gun Control Destroy Freedom,” the author states that “guns kept in a house have killed family members or friends 43 times more frequently than they have killed intruders” (Parrish). Guns will only do harm. People claim that they should have guns for self-protection but that is not what they are being used for. The framers did not intend for every single citizen to have the right to a killing machine. Even if they did intend for people to own weapons in the past, they would rewrite the Constitution today considering what is going on in America…

Imagine the idea of being defenseless against an attacker trying to wreck havoc on your teachers and fellow classmates. The worst feeling in the world is when you are helpless, and there is nothing you can do during a situation. Not allowing our teachers to carry a weapon while on school grounds is a great way to achieve this helpless feeling. Since 2013, there have been over two hundred school shootings in America- an average of nearly one a week. Between 2013 and 2015 an average of two shootings on K-12 schools took place per month.…

As of today, there have been 3,269 gun related deaths in the United States and 12,818 gun related incidents. Fifty seven of those incidents were mass shootings, five hundred and forty were home invasions, and three hundred and ninety two were defensive use (Gun Violence Archive). Most guns used in shooting are stolen in some way or another and yet, we still think that taking away the ability to buy them will stop all of the gun violence. Guns are not going away; it is time to arm those able to carry, allow concealed carry on college campuses, and to realize that taking away guns will not stop the mass shootings.…

(Lopez.) Even when teachers are armed, it doesn’t mean they can properly respond to a mass shooting by using the gun that they were trained to use. Many people are too shocked from fear to even move. A study shows that; “Law enforcement suffered casualties in 21 (46.7%) of the 45 incidents where they engaged the shooter to end the threat.” These are people trained to do this kind of thing full time, and nearly half of incidents resulted in at least one officer being wounded or killed.…

If it were in my hands to do something and have competence to change the laws, I would let individuals carry and or own weapons but they would need to have mental screenings between six months to a year to make sure that they are still capable of operating a firearm at one hundred percent. For example if a person owns a firearm suddenly gets into an accident and has becomes physically disabled affecting his eyesight or range of motion, he should be re-tested and or should be subjected to recertified. He or she should be able to pass the physical and mental requirements. Background checks and screenings are a necessity before a person get certified to own a gun or any kind of weapon permitted by the second amendment. If these precautions are taken our innocent society will not have to suffer from stress, fear of life, and the torture that comes from gun violence related…

In recent years, a lot of debate had been going on about the laws pertaining to firearms. Unfortunately, with all of the mass shootings and killings being reported by the media, guns are given a bad reputation. Sadly, many people believe that they should be illegal because they are dangerous and can kill people, but what these people don’t realize is making them illegal will do a lot more harm than good. Guns have created a balance in society and if we were to take them away it could cause a lot of chaos which would result in more crime and more casualties. People deserve the right to bear arms because with proper training one could possibly save his/her life and also protect others.…
