About twelve states allow concealed guns on campus either in the pocket or in a locked car on the parking lot beside the fact that a number of people get killed in different colleges. Just recently, on October 1, 2015, nine innocent lives were killed and another nine wounded on Umpqua Community College, Roseburg, OR. Campus should be a safe place for students, and they should feel safe when they are going to get an education. However many people argue that guns do not threaten safety. Student should not be allowed to carry a weapon on campus.
There are some people arguing that student should carry gun for these points. First of all, carrying a gun is a constitutional right. The constitution allows the carrying of concealed weapons to citizens and legal residents of the USA. Students are part of the society allowed to do so and they should enjoy the same benefit. In fact, they say, not to allow them is to deny them their constitutional right. Second, students are as responsible as anyone else. Since government send young people to war where they may die in defense of their country, why can’t government trust them to defend themselves in schools? Also school is where people learn, why shouldn’t students learn to use guns with responsibility, and actually carry it as well?” The first is a legal entitlement to self-defense which holds true in the countless other locations within a given state, without the need to demonstrate a need for self-defense”. (http://concealedcampus.org/campus-crime/). Third, the danger in schools, in recent year school violence has increased dramatically. This makes it a must that student should carry weapons to defend their lives. In Kenya 147 students were killed recently by a group of terrorists. If the students have guns they would have fought for their lives until help arrives. The same thing could happen in the USA. So the point here to allowed guns for safety issue. Nome the less, there are strong argument that students should concealed weapons on campus. The majority of the schools do not allow concealed guns. According to the Department of education “Overall homicide rate at post-secondary education institution was 0.07 per 100,000 students in 1999. By comparison, the criminal homicide rate in the United States as a whole was 5.7 per 100,000 persons.” ( http://www.armedcampuses.org/). This is clear indication that the no guns in school policy has positively affected the safety of schools when compared to other places. Allowing guns in school will make schools as unsafe as other places. Carrying gun on campus will increase the risk and violent crimes. For example, as seen in many road rage fights, for any fight that may happen on a campus student may find easy to use their guns. If they do not have guns, they will be forced to find a nonviolent solution to their fights. Also, students may kill each other’s or their teachers by accident. There is no car accident where there is no car. There cannot be gun accidents if guns are not allowed. If the guns are allowed to be carried on campus, students can …show more content…
As shown by the evidence, bringing guns on campus will make a dangerous environment and increase death and accidents. So’ students should carry books and pens freely, but not weapons on
