Viewpoints on Concealed Weapons on College Campuses
There has been controversial debate on allowing students access to concealed weapons on college campuses, will it be safer or not. There’s three articles that talks about their viewpoints on concealed weapons and giving their opinions to why students should or should not be allowed to carry guns on college campuses. Dean Dickerson and University Chancellor Mcraven talk about the protection of students and the concerns of potentially increasing violence on college campuses, while Students for Concealed Carry on Campuses (SCCC) argues that carrying concealed guns can make college campuses safer.

Both Dickerson and Mcraven viewpoints are similar because they talk about the potential increase of accidental shootings and self-inflicted injuries. These two people’s goals as dean and chancellor is to protect students and faculty from potential violence that can interrupt learning environment such as, a mass shooting that can occur. In a dialogue Mcraven (2015) says, “Guns will lead to an increase of accidental shootings on college campuses and self-inflicted wounds,” and “as chancellor, It’s the duty to make sure campuses are as safe as possible." Mcraven’s viewpoint explains that students will be stress from the amount of assignments and exams and when going to parties to relieve those stress, alcohol and drugs will be involved. When alcohol and drugs are involved, some students can act in depressed behaviors from the effect of alcohol and drugs, that it can lead to accidental shootings.
