This is the Second Amendment, which has captured a lot of people 's attention. This is because of the argument over whether there should be stricter gun control laws to protect civilians, or if there should be less. The argument for more gun restrictions say that if less people are able to get guns, or if it is harder to obtain them, then there will be less mass shootings. The argument for less control is that if more people have concealed weapons then they can stop shootings from getting worse, and will deter criminals because of the higher percentage of retaliation there will be. In the gun control argument, there are many arguments for why some people think there should be more or stricter gun control. People may say that having more background checks in order to be able to obtain a gun won 't work because people will still be able to get through it. This is wrong, however. According to the National Journal, states that impose more background checks actually have a 0.97 (per 100,000) lower gun homicide rate than states with less of a background check (nationaljournal.com). This shows that with a stricter background check, less people who may use a gun for homicides won 't be able to get these weapons.
