A school voucher is a government cash grant or tax credit redeemable for tuition fees at a school other than the public school that a student could attend for free. In order to be considered for a school voucher one must meet the following qualifications: students must have a family income that does not exceed 250 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, must be entering kindergarten, or be enrolled in a public school that has received the letter grade of a C, D, or F (National Conference 1) . Many families often seek vouchers because of the opportunity it gives to less fortunate students. The voucher program allows families to choose from over one hundred schools and enroll whenever their accepting new voucher students. Over six thousand low incomes children are attending private school on public funded vouchers, voucher programs have turned down almost four thousand kids so far. About fourteen schools in Louisiana choose it to even accept any new voucher students. Due to health issues, four more schools applications were denied according to Danielle Dreilinger. Governor Bobby Jindal found $44 million in the states budget at this Supreme Court adjusted the funding source of the voucher programs. A positive effect of school vouchers is that they are not only offered to low income students but also they are offered to students who have disabilities, kids who are in foster care, and military children.
