As she walked into school the only thing she could think of was, is he going to say something to me again today? For the past three weeks Madison had been bullied by someone that was supposed to be her very close friend. Every day all she heard was about how fat she was or how ugly she was or that she would never become someone, she was just going to die and no one would care. School was a living hell and Madison couldn’t handle it, there was no escaping him, he would always find her each day. Too many students experience bullying or are bullied, and that affects them wanting to come to school and also how they act in school. As said in Source D over the past few years at least 37 laws have been made against bullying and although these laws have been passed there have been law suits against schools for millions of dollars because of bullying incidents (source d). Why would there be law suits against schools for bullying if they did something about it? That is the problem, schools do nothing about bullying, and it is treated like a joke. Students every day are bullied by students and around teachers and all they do is say be quiet and forget about everything that was said or happened. Many teachers are involved in bullying as well. In source B a mother named Christi describes a situation where her child was being bullied and the school knew of this happening. Her son ended up getting into a fight with his bully and she was told by the principal that because her child was the “smarter” student he should have been able to get out of the situation without fighting. Christi’s son was going to be punished but the bully who had already been in 20 fights that year and who had thrown the first punch was not going to be (source b). When has it been proven that because a child is “smarter” that they should have thought of a way to get out of the fight instead of fighting? This type of bullying happens every day and the education system has proven that they do nothing about it, because it just keeps
