Developing a Strategic Plan: SWOT Analysis Strategic planning can be a complex process. For an organization to achieve the best results when planning, it is necessary to utilize a systematic approach to identifying and analyze internal and external factors. In the early 1960’s, the business community developed SWOT analysis to facilitate strategic planning (White & Blaiser, 2011). Ghazinoory, Abdi, and Azadegan-Mehr (2011) describe SWOT analysis as a process of exploring the internal and external environments of an organization. SWOT analysis looks at an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (Sadeghi, Barzi, Mikhail, & Shabot, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the results of the SWOT Analysis. The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats will be discussed in detail. Defining the objective can then take place once the mission and vision statements are reviewed. After the objective is established, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats are listed and analyzed (Marquis & Huston, 2015).
The unmet need and objective at Mercy Medical Center are to have the nursing staff, culturally competent. Not only is it important to have nurses be culturally competent but the more diverse an organization workforce is, there will be an increase in the overall health of our nation (Harris, Purnell, Fletcher, & Lindgren, 2013).
Meetings with stakeholders will ensue where the strengths and weaknesses will be brought forth along with areas of opportunities and threats to the plan. A matrix of these four areas will be laid
