Solar Mama Film Review
The film Solar Mamas is directed by Mona Eldaief and Jehane Noujaim. It is about a woman’s journey to get an education to be able to turn her and her family’s life around along with her community. Rafea is a wife and mother that is from Jordan, she gets the opportunity to attend the Barefoot College in India that is training with other illiterate women to become solar energy engineers. She goes through some difficult struggles when trying to pursue her dream. Mostly dealing with her controlling husband and worrying about her children. She makes new friends while at the Barefoot College that later helps her catch up when she gets back after her husband forced her to head home early. She eventually graduates and heads back to her village where she brings her knowledge of solar energy engineering to teach her community about it and to eventually be able to offer jobs as solar engineers.
I love the way they made this film with regular background noise and not the usual music you would hear in almost any movie. It helps give the film a natural “feel” to it as is goes from one scene to the other. It even has some scenes where they are sitting around and relaxing or doing what they normally do instead of just focusing on the main reason of the film. I also like how Rafea is determined to

I found the film Solar Mamas interesting and funny. It was interesting because of how they made the film and how determined Rafea was to get the job as a solar energy engineer, she never seemed to give up at all. The film was funny when they would just fool around and have scenes where they would say something funny like, “Smoking is all we ever do”. The film makes it easy to get your attention with all the dramatic, funny, and sometimes sad scenes it has. This film is about a really great story, I liked this story so much I would watch it

Throughout the course of human history and during many different societies, women have been treated as subordinates to men. A recurring theme between civilizations is that men are the superior sex, and a woman’s main role in society was to bare offspring. Although Muslim societies are not the first societies to have a patriarchal hierarchy, they have some of the most prominent male-dominated societies that persist into modern times. The role of real women in a genuine Islamic society can be observed through Rafea Anad’s life in the documentary Solar Mamas; however, Disney’s Aladdin also provides another fictional yet sometimes accurate depiction of a women in a similar Islamic society but from a different socioeconomic background. The first act primarily gave a background on how those townsfolk settled on Oklahoma Territory. It also illustrated Curly’s pursuit of Laurey, and Ado Annie’s love triangle. The second act was the true execution of everybody’s motives. Curly defeats Jud and wins Laurey over and Will Parker finally earns back $50 to take Ado Annie as his wife. I think the rhythm was smooth and cohesive.…

It begins by describing what a favela is, which I am glad it does because this is a term that I have never heard of before. This film discusses what life is like in Brazil and goes through different slums in Brazil. It was made to inform and show people what the slums were like in Brazil and to give the audience a glimpse of what life is like for them.…

Directed by Spencer Stussey and Daniel Campos and winner of Tropfest 2016, the film 'Shiny' extravagantly and entertainingly shows a mass of limbless people furiously fighting for a diamond. Literally. Now, stop-motion animations like this one often include some fairly unusual animations and ideas, but 'Shiny' goes wild with this. There are moving clothes without bodies that act as the film's characters - yes, moving clothes!…

Dead End Drive-In is another flick in a long line of random horror films from the 80s that I haven't seen. IT seems there is a good amount out there waiting to be experienced and Arrow Video is bringing them out on Blu-ray for just that purpose alone. Directed by Brian XXX (Night of the Demons 2), Dead End Drive-In came out in XXX and is known as an Ozploitation flick, much in the same line as Mad Max. It delivers a message on the downfall society and the feuding between the haves and the Have-nots. However, the message becomes muddled during the XXX runtime, as events plod along at a slow pace, not providing enough oomph to keep most viewers invested for the long haul.…

The movie Corpse Bride is a very charming yet macabre movie of how a shy, stumbling young man accidently marries a deceased bride. This movie is done by stop motion, yet is still very elegantly. With the grim aesthetic of the Victorian era, the living world is shown to be dull, gray, and practically lifeless while the Land of the Dead is full of color, and lively characters. The detail of every character and object is rich with also a grand orchestra, soft piano and jazz numbers to company.…
