This musical film stars three fine actors: Frank Sinatra, Kim Novak and Rita Hayworth. Frank Sinatra did a splendid job as Joey Evans, a lady`s man who dreams of owning his own night club. For the first time Joey had an opportunity at achieving his dream when Mrs. Simpson, acted out by Rita Hayworth came along, a rich widow and former prostitute. What Joey didn’t realize was that true feelings began escalating for the beautiful and naïve Linda English played out by Kim Novak. Not only was the acting from all three of these actors marvelous, but more importantly believable. Sinatra had the perfect image for the role he was not a strong built guy with striking features and blue eyes, but rather a funny and skinny fellow who had his ways with the ladies. It had a very crisp image and very bold colors. As well a variety of shots, I especially liked the extreme wide shot of San Francisco. The most impressive work of all was the superb costumes. The costumes were utterly stunning. What made this musical exceptional was its natural upbringing of songs. I applause their choice of a night club setting, as it brought everything together and made the songs flow in the movie rather than burst out of thin air. The music and singing was exemplary. The tracks were moving and very effective in portraying the characters emotions and
