I did receive comments on my LPI that I need to work on delegation. I’m aware that I tend to take on added tasks, but in my viewpoint, I saw it as helping the crew, so they weren’t overworked. Apparently, they perceived it differently and preferred that I step back and allow them to do the work. I will be more cognizant of this and offer assistance as needed. This will also help them feel more competent and develop their skills. Family is the one thing you will always have, and you need to appreciate their presence. I try to spend as much time with my family as possible and maintain a healthy work-life balance and encourage my staff to do the same. Happiness is a foundation and if you aren’t happy it can breed into other problems. As supervisors, co-workers, or just human beings in general, it’s important to recognize when someone’s happiness levels decrease. Sometimes the drop can be minimal, but other times it stems from something deep and can cause the person to resort to extreme measures like alcohol/drug abuse or suicide. As a yeoman, we typically spend the majority of the day sedentary therefore committing yourself to a healthy lifestyle is important. I give my staff the necessary time daily to focus on their physical fitness. It isn’t just physical health either; it’s important to monitor your mental health as well. Learning the triggers of stress and when you need to step back and take a day off. Respect and communication go hand in hand. It’s imperative to a healthy relationship, both personal and professional, to maintain the respect and open lines of communication between both parties. These traits can be broken easily and once broken are hard to
