What is leadership? There are several different definitions. The dictionary defines Leadership as ”Guidance; Direction” or “…The capacity or ability to lead and serve.” Many people think it is merely about taking charge, but it is a lot more than just that. Leaders use their skills to inspire change, and leadership skills are obtained through experience. Throughout my life, I had many opportunities to be a leader and serve my community. However, my most rewarding experiences have been in Boy Scouts, volunteering at Warner Elementary School, and the LifeSmarts program.
In Boy Scouts, I have held many positions of leadership including Den Chief, Assistant Patrol Leader, and Patrol Leader. Currently, I am the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader in Troop 2 and a member of the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society of Boy Scouts.
As an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, I train and supervise scout leaders who hold a position of responsibility, such as the Scribe, Quartermaster, Instructor, Librarian, Historian, Webmaster, and Chaplain’s Aide. I make sure that they complete their assigned tasks. I also help the Senior Patrol Leader to plan meetings and service projects, and I

In March, I gave four LifeSmarts Safety Smart presentations to the Project C.H.A.N.C.E. after school program. In these presentations, I showed the students how they can help our environment, be safe online, and live healthy and moral lives. It was amazing to see how the students applied the concepts in my presentations to their lives. Through giving these presentations, I have learned many useful leadership skills. I have become more confident when speaking to an audience. I learned how to teach in ways that are more effective than just discussions, such as visual aids, using fun activities for a more hands-on approach, and how to communicate respectfully with adults through email and in
