Murphy is in his 22nd year of coaching and of those 22 years he has been the leader/coach of one of the nation’s most powerful softball program for 17 years. Three days later, he decided he made the wrong decision and came back to Alabama where his home and heart is. I have had the pleasure of being able to listen to Patrick Murphy speak at softball coaching clinic several years ago. He is an absolutely, wonderful, motivational speaker. The way he talks about the game he is passionate about is very inspirational. He is not only the kind of coach that you want to emulate but as a person also. Patrick Murphy is a leader that exudes the qualities that it takes to be a successful leader is his profession. When he is interviewed he never talks about “I” it is always “we” other coaches on the staff, “them” and “us”, or the players. It is hard to narrow down just two of Murphy’s leadership characteristics that he used to inspire his players and staff. Patrick not only inspires players but also other coaches as well.
