Hoby Research Paper

Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. A leader is someone who people feel comfortable approaching, who is kind and welcoming to everyone's issues and concerns. They are intelligent, trustworthy, and most importantly level headed in times of stress. A leader is not forced into the position, the look for it and seek to become it. A leader wants to help others, wants to be in control, and wants to help others become leaders, because they know how it can change a person's life. I would like to be accepted into HOBY because at HOBY, attendees learn leadership skills, work with other leaders their age, and create bonds that will last a lifetime. Everyone that I know who has attended HOBY has said it was life altering, and they wish they could go back again and again. What's not to like about that? Through what I have learned about the program, it sounds like an amazing experience that I would love to be able to be a part of. An unknown author once said “good leaders inspire others to have confidence in him/her while great leaders inspire others to have confidence in themselves” and I could not agree more. A great leader does not focus on what they have done that makes them wonderful, a great leader builds confidence in their peers, so they can have the confidence in the group as a whole and the capability to succeed. Through HOBY and other opportunities, I hope to be able to learn how to become a great leader. I strive to be a strong role model that my peers can look to for advice, guidance, friendship, and courage. I believe HOBY can help me achieve this, and I would be forever grateful to have the ability to
