The Workplace: A Personal Experience At Work

Decent Essays
The topic I would like to analyze is one that I have been dealing with at work. I decided to do a favor for my supervisor that did not work out well for me, therefore, my analysis will help me figure out how to not find myself in that situations again.
A few months ago, my direct supervisor had to take a leave of absence due to an injury. He was going to be out for a few weeks to recover, but his leave took longer than he originally expected, consequently, our regional manager decided to hire a temporary replacement for him until he returned. During my scheduled interview, she informed me that our partnering company did not want to hire a replacement and they wanted to divide the responsibilities up between two employees. I agreed because I

After we started completing the tasks, turned out that my responsibilities were a lot for time consuming and come with other tasks attached to it, such as meeting delivery drivers and driving to an off-site storage unit. Our company locations are inside airports so everything is far away from each other and going to the off-site storage takes hours. I really enjoy the tasks I was doing, all the walking was great and the variety of different tasks makes the day go by fast. All of my co-workers started coming to me as if I was there supervisor. I am hoping to have a permeant job like that one in the future.
A few months after I started taking over responsibilities, my supervisor returned from his leave of absence. Our partnering company did not think he was an effective supervisor and no longer wanted him to be a part of the project, therefore, he was reassigned. I assumed they would want to replace him, but a few weeks after his return, my regional manager informed me they were not planning on it and wanted to keep things as they are. By that point, I was basically doing the job by myself, my co-worker’s responsibilities only took a few minutes every week and I was doing management responsibilities for hours each

I feel that I have proved that I can handle the job, as I have received nothing but good feedback. Hopefully, in the future when my company is hiring for another management role, I will be promoted. From this exercise, I have learned that I no longer want to do favors such as this, I not really feel as if I received anything out of it and I started to feel taken advantage of. This situation is what gave me the real push to go back to school, I know what type of career I want and I believe this is the best way to get

At the start of my junior year, I realized that I needed to volunteer my time more than just the occasional “Community Project” that I did with my school’s Student Leadership Program. My mother gave me the idea of working at the Awana Club, a club for children from Pre-K up to 5th grade, which focuses on the Bible and creation of friendships. To a sixteen year old who thought kids were the spawns of Satan himself, Awana sounded like the worst possible place to volunteer. But, my mother is very persistent.…

Between the months of my previous manager's departure and of my current manager's hire, I fielded vacation requests, built the design desk schedules, polled skill levels, checked which designers had remote access, crafted a contingency plan when Methode rebelled and compiled workflow issues that created inefficiencies. I routinely pick up other responsibilities and sometimes work longer shifts when a co-worker calls in sick. Early during a local shift, I noticed the stories selected for the cover didn't have strong centerpiece art. I spoke with Frank about my idea for a centerpiece, and then sketched out an illustration that incorporated the FYI Guy graphic.…

The idea of being told that I had to work for the first time made me want to eat glass; but could it possibly have turned out for the better? In England, when you reach 10th grade you participate in a nationally accepted program called 'Work Experience'. ' Work Experience' is when you work just like you would if you were legally an adult except with this program it only lasts a week. After 2 weeks of tireless searching I landed a job at Ariya Capital; an experienced developer and investor in clean energy and infrastructure projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It was actually much more advanced than any job I ever thought of getting.…

My very first experience with working in group was couple of years ago during a final year project, in my country of birth. The project was in community medicine, and involved repeated trip to a rural community by my group to access their health status, and needs. We had many challenges, but overcame them all as a group. I learnt the act of collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making by consensus building, and most importantly; comradeship.…

A few weeks ago, I found myself on the second floor of the North end of the Unity Health Hospital, dressed in the nicest button-up shirt and dress pants I own, shaking so hard that my folder, which held my resume, cover letter, two pens, notebook paper and a cheesy motivational quote stuck to the inside cover, nearly fell out of my hands. My first job interview was an experience that I will never forget. My anxiety reached the point of exacerbation during the fifteen minutes that I spent in the empty lobby. I had intentionally arrived fifteen minutes earlier than my appointed time and was only accompanied by my own thoughts, which were fraught with worry. Had I arrived too early?…
