Investing in your Leadership Team
A company that not only realizes the importance of their leadership team, but takes action to improve that team will probably do better compared to their competitors. There is a financial investment that can be put towards education and personal improvement of the leadership team but more than the education we need to look at the results that come from it. I was sad to have a team that looked up to me and were very vocal that they were pleased with the changes I had been making. Taking into account the employees personal needs and goals helps a leader to know how to keep the employee engaged and active in their job while pushing to increase performance. An engaged employee is one that looks forward to going to work and tries to surpass the goals given them, sometimes by making it a personal game. Employees that are disengaged use all their sick and vacation time as soon as it accrues, has a negative attitude and gets by only barley making the minimum metrics that are provided.
Once you have met with and learned more about employees you work with you can create group goals and allow each employee the chance to contribute to the improvement of the team. This gives them the sense they are needed and a valuable part of not just the team but the company as a whole.
