I participated in taking a survey created by the University of Pennsylvania to evaluate your personality on 24 different characteristics. The purpose of the questionnaire is to find which of the 24 character traits are your strengths. The survey is 240 questions long and is comprised of a series of statements, most of these statements ask how much you think the statement sounds like you, but several of them ask how other people see you. After taking the test, it listed several of my strongest character traits, the top 3 traits being perspective wisdom, self-control and self-regulation, and love of learning. When looking at the reading the description of what perspective wisdom is, I would say that it isn 't describing the correct attribute. While I would like to think of myself as wise I wouldn 't say that it 's the reason people come to me for advice. I frequently have people come to me with their problems whether to simply vent or to find a solution to their problem and after years of doing so, I know better than to think it 's because of my wisdom. I don 't think that the context in which the survey puts them in fits me personally but I would say it 's less inaccuracy, and more of a need for the answers to be vague enough to fit most people. With consideration to that, I would say that this survey does a very good job of creating a general summary of a person 's strengths based off of many questions which would seem to only be comprised of surface questions rather than deep psychoanalytical questions. I believe a survey like this would be extremely useful to many people, and could aid people in both using their strengths to their advantage but more importantly, find and improve areas of

The first quality of wisdom Bentley discusses is cognitive skill, which is, in his words, “the ability to assess complex situations, understand the dynamics that produced them, and evaluate them on the basis of clear-eyed understanding of human nature, both general and particular.” Basically, this cognitive skill is the ability to understand complicated situations and handle them in a calm, level-headed manner. This skill can be applied to almost every aspect of life, as problems will always arise with complex circumstances and solutions, and one must be able to approach the situation with a clear mind in order to assess the problem and solve it in a timely and calm fashion. The…

After reading a few chapters of Strengths Quest, I was instructed to participate in the Strengths Finder assessment (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006). This 30 minute assessment was an interesting tool that pointed out my greatest strengths. It also provided a detailed description of what having those strengths mean and examples of how they are prominent in a person 's life. After taking the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five dominant strengths are empathy, harmony, consistency, relator, and restorative.…

The five greatest strengths shown to me by the Strengthsfinder Survey were Consistency, Belief, Responsibility, Developer, and Relator. I chose a life of Civil Service, in the Military and now as a Police Officer. Having Consistency and Responsibility I believe fit right into this life choice and in my opinion if you don't have Belief in what you're doing you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. I utilize Consistency on a daily basis as a Police Officer. I wholeheartedly believe each individual has the right to be treated fairly and on equal ground to anyone else regardless of social, economic or criminal justice standings.…

One day as I leisurely read, I stumbled upon the following quote, “Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” On a website comprised of many short yet moving quotes, this one quote in particular was the most tangible to me in the entire collection. For weeks, I pondered on the very essence of strength and questioned what hardships have I endured and how was I strengthened by it.…

Prior to beginning SOWK 7338 Theories and Perspectives course, the strengths perspective was one of the theories I utilized and practiced in my field of work. As a mental health counselor at Pineland BHDD, I work with individuals who have a range of mild to severe and persistent disorders. These disorders include anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, and schizophrenia etc. As a counselor, one must be able to apply theories that helps aid in the recovery of the individual. While working under a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) I was able to learn how to apply strengths perspective techniques correctly when engaging clients.…

This is an opportunity that not everyone has the privilege to be a part of during their high school career. I would like to display the ways in which I have demonstrated the required assets to be a part of this organization. Not only do I possess the qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and service, but through N.H.S., I am certain that I will grow tremendously in each of these areas. My major strengths related to this outcome were communication, and problem solving skills. I have good communication skills; I talk to people in a way they feel comfortable sharing their problems with me so I can help them in the better way to promote health and well being. Due to better communication skill I was able to obtain all the necessary information regarding their disease states and due to my problem solving skills I was able to recommend other preventative care vaccines like pneumonia vaccines to the diabetic patients if they haven’t received one. For example, I was able to obtain the information that a patient is pregnant and is in her first trimester due to my communication skill and because of my problem solving skills I recommended…

The question that I must answer deals with who I am and where do my ideas come from. I am a twenty-two year old African-American female named Marlene Denise Ware, and I consider my family experiences important as to our health and well-being. My family is not perfect and my family origin and chosen relationships with reference to culture are a healthy functional family. We learn how tolerate each other, and I complain because of how someone in my family might be handling a situation and have quite a few negative dynamics and some positive strengths about them. I have read that exploring your own family origin should be with a trained person such as a family therapist because they can provide insight.…

The chapter characterizes practical wisdom as a quality someone inherits. Those that have a lot of wisdom are good at getting tasks done and because of that they should be good at compromising , bringing individuals together , and being able to settle differences. (Heinrichs 108) Heinrichs conveys the concept to the reader by suggesting that someone uses this idea to judge someone’s core character and not just be fooled by their day to day demeanor. You can get to know someone’s true character with this method and not get caught up in just the things they tell you.…

I thought the Survey of Character Strengths was an interesting survey to take. My first and second strengths were not particularly surprising to me, however my third was not what I necessarily expected it to be, but I am certainly not unhappy with it. All three strengths are values I have always admired because I have grown up watching my parents and older siblings showcase all three. I have consciously tried to emulate their example regarding these strengths and it was intriguing and encouraging to see all three show up in the survey. I was glad to see which strength showed up as my top, as kindness and generosity are especially important to me.…

Introduction Have you ever wondered what your greatest strengths were and how you could use those to help you advance in your career? Many people probably think they have certain personality strengths until they take an assessment to see what they actually are. I recently took a personality assessment utilizing the DISC method of scoring to see what my more dominant personality traits were. The results came back a little different than what I thought of myself at first but the more I pondered on it, the more it made sense. My three most dominant personality traits are Conscientious, Dominant and Steadiness.…
