THE EVLOLUTION OF PSYCHOLOGY. Defined as the study of behavior and mind, embracing all aspects of conscious and unconscious experience as well as thought, psychology is becoming one of the most growing fields of study today. Psychology started in 1879 when Wilhelm Wundt the founder of experimental psychology set up an experimental laboratory to conduct research on human behavior. This led to a new era where more people became interested in the study of human behaviors, for example: we came to know of people like Dr. Sigmund Freud, William James, Dr. Ivan Pavlor, and the first African American professor at city college New York, Kenneth Clark. Most of these scientists were known for mostly using dolls on children trying to determine and study the children’s reactions to race. The history of psychology as a scholarly study of the mind and behavior dates back to the Ancient Greeks although it’s said that there might be evidence of psychology thought in ancient Egypt. Psychology was a branch of philosophy until the 1870s when Germany and the United States decided to develop it as an independent, scientific discipline. Psychology is considered a science today because psychologists share a basic assumption based on research and testing that have to align with all the other scientists work. Psychology methods can range from simple to complex even though there are several methods, the outcomes that they get can be relatively different depending on which method of approach is taken.…
