Like what you have said, I wish that staff nurses, like us, are also formally trained how to properly manage crucial conversations. Although we orient new staff nurses in the operating room for six months, learning how to deal with difficult physicians and colleagues are just part of the “on-the-job” training. There is no formal education on this critical skill. After orientation, each nurse develops his/her own style which is not necessarily effective in resolving conflicts.
