The University of California have also claimed that the mental health problems that comes from an abortion are rare to have and that if it was an epidemic, there would have been a treatment for it. The American Psychological Association has revisited the case in 2006 and they claimed that the risk of mental health problems is no greater than a woman delivering her own baby. Not only did the APA concluded this, but also the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges claim that the rates of mental health problems are the same as a woman giving birth (Guttmacher Institute). Studies have shown that abortion caused harm to the woman by causing them to have depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse, and even suicidal thoughts. Planned Parenthood perform 2 types abortions for women who decide to have the procedure. Planned Parenthood even agrees that abortion does cause mental health problems and they even offer therapy for women who develop it. The unwanted pregnancy is what makes women have a higher risk for issues like damaging the woman’s body. The damages to the women include fever, infections, bleeding, chronic abdominal pain, and vomiting. Even though abortion is considered “safe” because of the modern technology that we have today, but even with the modern technology, there are various effects that will happen to the woman.
