Wind Energy: The Future Of Renewable Energy

Good Essays
In 1839, a French physicist Edmund Becquerel proposed that few materials have the ability to produce electricity when exposed to sunlight. But Albert Einstein explained the photoelectric effect and the nature of light in 1905. Photoelectric effect state that when photons or sunlight strikes to a metal surface flow of electrons will take place. Later photoelectric effect became the basic principle for the technology of photovoltaic power generation. The first PV module was manufactured by Bell laboratories in 1954.
Some 5000 years ago, firstly wind power was used to navigate ships in the Nile. The Europeans used it to pump water and grind grains in 1700s and 1800s.The first windmill which generated electricity was installed in 1890 in U.S. A

This is the reason why renewable energy sources have become more important these days. Few other Reasons include advantages like abundant availability in nature, eco-friendly and recyclable. Many Renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydel and tidal are there. Among these renewable sources solar and wind energy are the world’s fastest growing energy resources. With No emission of pollutants, energy conversion is done through wind and PV cells. Day by day, the demand for electricity is rapidly increasing. But the available base load plants are not able to supply electricity as per demand. So, these energy sources can be used to bridge the gap between supply and demand during peak loads. This kind of small scale stand-alone power …show more content…
The two major technologies are wafer-based silicon and thin-film. Crystalline silicon solar cell is more efficient than thin-film solar cell but that is more expensive to produce. They are most commonly uses in large to medium electric applications like grid connected PV power generation. Mono-crystalline solar cell is manufactured by pure semi-conducting materials so it has higher efficiency (above 17% in industrial production and 24% in research laboratories. Poly-crystalline solar cell is slightly less efficient than Mono-crystalline but less in cost. In thin-film solar cell very thin layers of semiconducting materials are uses so they can be produces in large quantity at lower cost but it efficiency is less. Hybrid generation system uses more than one source, so that we can extract energy from different sources at the same time which enhances the efficiency. The working of PV-Wind hybrid system is understood from many topologies that can be used for the hybridization of more than one system and also about advantages and disadvantages of hybrid system. From and basic details of PV cell, PV module, PV array[1-3].Also, the behavior of PV modules at varying environmental conditions like solar irradiation and temperature are studied. Behavior of PV module during partial shading condition and also how it’s bad effects can be minimized. The partial shading phenomenon is used. Photovoltaic cell harnesses the solar energy which

Easily applicable solar panels can be built everywhere and help save electricity in multiple boroughs not just the Bronx. A major advantage of Solar energy is that it is a renewable resource. A renewable resource is a resource which is replaced naturally and can be used again. As stated in document 2 "Solar Power-Advantages and Disadvantages” written by David ,“Solar energy is a completely renewable resource”. This is showing an advantage because the energy can be repeatedly used to produce more energy.…

This makes investments in solar power much more appealing due to low risk and quick rewards. Another advantage solar facilities have over oil and gas pipelines or nuclear facilities is that they are much less vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Solar energy, like all renewable energy resources, does not produce hazardous wastes and are geographically dispersed. Solar energy also has a great outlook in the future as costs of Photorvoltaic systems, also called solar cells, are declining in price by about five percent a year while the efficiency of these cells improve (Wright and Boorse 401). As a final note, the solar energy resource is much more abundant than the limited fossil and nuclear fuel resources.…

This means that when we use it, the energy produced will be able to be used again. Solar energy is not only sustainable and totally inexhaustible unlike fossil fuels that are finite. Solar energy is a renewable resource and that means that we will never run out of it. Fossil fuels will not last forever we should start to use other sources of energy before it is too late. Solar energy is a lot more reliable and will last longer than any other nonrenewable resource.…

I think solar energy would be the most effective energy for the United States to develop. The energy cost has dropped because the technology improved. Although some still argue that solar energy is costly, it is beneficial to the environment because it is efficient, it will not give off harmful gases, and it is easily accessible. Solar energy is powered by sunlight, which converts it into solar heating and electricity. There are two types of solar heating systems, active and passive power; solar energy uses this to make electricity.…

Currently, solar panels generally consist of silicon and various conductive materials to transfer the electricity into a home or building. In this concept we can use other materials in addition to silicon as the primary component that absorbs UV light from the Sun's rays. This will increase the efficiency while only increasing the cost by a small margin. The cost to yield ratio for solar panels working in Tandem with silicon is much higher than with only one material. Silicon is used as the base material for the composition of solar panels and only yields about a 26% efficiency at its peak power production while the absolute base for only using one material would yield around 34% efficiency in the entire system [13].…

They have many similarities and differences, but solar power is is still a better source. Both Nuclear and Solar are power sources for humans, but solar power is more convenient that nuclear. There is a cost to build both nuclear power plants and solar power farms, but solar power plants cost a lot more. However, the cost of the fuel for nuclear power (uranium) is expensive while the cost of the fuel for solar power is free. Both solar power and nuclear…

Solar energy is renewable source, which means we can never run out of the sunshine. Due to which, utilizing energy from the natural renewable sources like the sun, dependence on sources such as oil and coal that are harmful to environment can be decreased. As shown in figure 2, the solar energy is a renewable energy source. Although, energy that is produced from other sources like coal and natural gas are expensive as well as they are not renewable. Moreover, people have been able to capture some of the sun’s energy that falls to earth and convert it into usable power for a variety of practical uses such as for cooking, heating, and to power everyday appliances.…

Batteries store solar power. Charge up the batteries on the sunny days and use that stored energy when the sun is hard to find. Many of the urban folks that are living without the grid, cloudy days and batteries get the job done. Solar energy is reduced when the sun is behind a cloud or on the other side of the world. It is low efficiency.…

But there is a downside to solar, from the article ‘Solar Energy Pros and Cons – Energy Informative’ states “Some manufacturing processes are associated with greenhouse gas emissions” (Maehlum 6). The making of solar panels produces Nitrogen Trifluoride and Sulfur Hexafluoride, a much more potent greenhouse gas than Carbon Dioxide. Solar panels overall are a much better energy source than coal power. Another great renewable energy source is wind power. Wind power works as air flows through wind turbines produces energy to the generators in the form of electricity.…
