Energy sources are a vast number but not all of them are renewable and those that are non-renewable are not going to cater for the next generations if we do not change to live conservatively and sustainable . The non-renewable energy sources not only are damaging our environment, they are also depleting . This means that the future generations will not get the benefits we are getting today from our environment if we are not starting to change our values and attitudes towards the use of the energy sources.
Sources of energy More concentrated energy sources are used and are categorized into renewable and non-renewable energy. Renewable energy sources are those sources that can be replenished over and over again, that is they do …show more content…
There is a dire need of the solution if we are to reduce the environmental degradation for the sake of the future generations. The development of the sustainable energy policy is required to change values and lifestyles in energy production and use. The decline of petroleum production near the end of the 21st century will cause oil and gasoline to be in shorter supply and more expensive but before that they need to be reduced to decrease global climate change. Although people living in industrialised countries are relatively small in percentage compared to the world’s population, their energy consumption is disproportionate to that of the world. This results in the fact that there is a direct relationship between a country’s standard of living and energy consumption per capita. This situation means that developed and developing countries alike will in the near future need to find innovative ways to obtain energy as affluence may be related closely to more efficient use of a wider variety of energy sources as it is to total energy consumption now. Our country South Africa, like all other countries is more reliant on fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas). Approximately 89% of South African energy supply is from fossil …show more content…
Photovoltaics convert sunlight directly into electricity. Solar thermal generators use sunlight to heat water and produce electricity from steam. Hydro-electric power plant generates electricity. Tidal power seems to be the most successful development of energy from the ocean. Wind power is used to produce electricity as it has high energy potential. Biofuels have been and remain a major source of energy throughout the history of civilisation. Geothermal energy is categorised into deep-earth, high-density; and shallow-earth, low-density. High –density makes use of energy within the earth, whereas the low-density makes use of energy from the sun. This energy can be used to generate electricity in many
