What is marketing? When most people think of marketing they normally think of the trading and selling of goods and services. Holdford defines marketing as “a process of problem solving, in which marketers attempt to identify and meet the needs of customers.” Marketing is the exchanges of people in which something of value is traded for the purpose of satisfying needs and wants. There are four key elements of marketing: people, value, needs/wants, and exchange. The functions of marketing include selling, researching customer needs and wants, developing strategies, maintaining customer records, delivering products and services, financing, promotion, pricing, and monitoring customer satisfaction. Pharmacy marketing is about promoting new ideas. Pharmacists are marketers too, pharmacist influence others. Pharmacist should be compensated for their professional services. ````` Providers that can demonstrate and promote their values are more likely to thrive in the future health care environment. Today pharmacist are faced with a number of social trends that make it important for pharmacist to market themselves and their skills to become more successful. Social trends that pharmacist face today are Consumer-directed health care (CDHC), Aging baby boomers, around the society, improvements in service technology, budgetary constraints, health care innovations, and rising global competition. Consumer- directed health care encourages patient involvement in health care purchasing decisions, this empowers patients to mange their health through disease management, wellness programs, preventative care, and self-monitoring technology. Pharmacist can play a huge role in helping patients live a longer and healthier life.
