We are students at Purvis Middle School and we would like to talk about an argument that we feel strongly about, which is the topic of arming teachers.

Recently people have been talking about arming teachers. People say that this will lead to less school shootings and it might, but there's more to this than people realize and it will be a lot harder said than done. Have you ever thought of the teachers position? How would the teachers feel? Do you think all the students would look at the teachers the same after that? Everyone is dangerous but people often don't realize until they hurt someone. Once someone has blood on their hands that is when people realize how dangerous they are. No one would look at the teacher the

There is a lot of cost that would go into this. For example the state has to pay for the gun and ammo. Where does this money come from are people willing to pay more taxes. Also if a teacher got a gun what is stopping them from shooting kids most kids do not think it would make them feel safe. Also teachers are not in their mind to shoot a student they are trained and are in the mentality to care and nurture students not put a hole in them. Also do you think a student would be able to look at a teacher the same after they saw them shoot a person the kids would be tarfided. As already stated everyone is dangerous but people do not realize how dangerous they are until they have blood on their hands. This would also greatly affect their career and if the teacher moved it would be hard to get a job because this would be on their permanent record and the educational board wherever they are will not want to hire someone who is dangerous whether it is in self defence or not. Another thing is what would happen if a student where to get ahold of the gun think of how much damage they could cause with

Arming teachers would prevent shooters from coming if they were looking for an easy target (Hagin, Para. 14). This intimidates the shooter because they know that they won't have an easy target at all and that they would most likely die. Matthew Santoni, a well known journalist states,“Gun-free zone to a maniac -- because they're all cowards -- a gun-free zone is 'let's go in and let's attack because bullets aren't coming back at us. If we did not arm teachers then the shooter would know that it is a gun free zone and come (“Arming Teacher Pros”, 18-19). Not arming teachers in this situation is an absolute disaster, thinking about it a shooter could come in as a free soul with no problem to kill anyone they see, but with teachers armed and trained then the teachers could easily rush to the situation and take care of it.…

Although on a rare occasion there may be an iniquitous teacher, the vast majority are benevolent people who are willing to save lives. In various deadly situations of the past, teachers have saved lives by the means of a gun. Because a gun was easily accessible, a Missouri teacher stopped a shooter who “killed two students and wounded seven others at a high school” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 6). However, due to current gun-free zones, the likelihood that a teacher has access to a gun is very slim. By providing every teacher with a gun, more situations like that of Missouri would occur, rather than more situations like the Connecticut shooting at…

If teachers have access to the weapons, an intruder could also gain access only increasing the potential for violence. Concealed handguns in the schools would be kept in a secure area and teachers and administrators would have strict procedures in carrying the gun on school grounds. There would be more responsibility for the teachers and administrators, but in order to protect students teachers would welcome new regulations. The battle continues in state legislatures across the country.…

Proposals offered by the gun lobby to repeal the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act and arm teachers as a solution to curb those rare instances of gun violence at school. Teachers are not trained law enforcement officers – their purpose is to be educators and role models. Gun violence prevention measures for our schools should focus on educating kids about the dangers of firearms, and reminding gun-owning parents to safely own and secure firearms and ammunition, rather than on arming teachers. A study of 37 school shootings in 26 states found that in nearly two-thirds of the incidents, the attacker got the gun from his or her own home or…

Gun control has been an issue that is discussed in schools, political debates and is always a basis for anyone running for the presidential office. Should teachers and faculty be allowed to carry firearms in schools to protect the students? There are always two sides to the issue. Digging deeper on both sides of the issue and to find good clear reasoning is important in order to decide what is right, not just to agree with a political parties opinion. I plan on setting my own views aside on this as well sense…

All the mass shootings have happened in places where the law made it a gun free zone making people not able to carry a concealed weapon even on duty guard or police officer. I know the law is to take gun out of children hands and put them in to professional hands but with this law there is no way that a school guard or teacher can protect themselves and their student with this I makes the teachers put their lives in danger of protecting their students with their bodies so that the students don’t get shot. The last school shooting that happened in Parkland, Florida. Was a horrible thing to happen but if they would have maybe concerned to allow certain teacher that are trained with gun can get training with gun to able to stop this situation from happen. The shooter was free to do anything he wanted because he knew that he didn’t need to worry about some defending themselves with gun.…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…

Gun control in the United States is one of the biggest domestic issues today. The issue of whether citizens are allowed to own guns or whether they are not allowed to own guns is debated every day. Gun violence continues to rise in public places. Large cities see more gun violence than anywhere else in the United States. Part of the violence in large cities happens at schools.…

If a student’s intent on hurting people they would know who would have a gun and how to get it. Also school officials are not the police, they have not been trained for these types of situations and can do more harm than good. The police can respond calmly than someone who is not used to being in these situations. Teachers should not be leaping in and start shooting away trying to fight the attacker, they should be trying to get the students away safely. More guns being fired is not the solution in a mass shooting and would likely bring more casualties and be harmful than intended originally.…

Another recent shooting was at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Twenty students were killed and six adults were killed (For Newtown, 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting Is Still Painful). If the teachers were supplied with guns, maybe they could have defended themselves and some of the kids if not all of them.…

I do believe that teachers with the proper training and license should be allowed to have guns on school property if they so choose. These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them.…
