I had completely forgotten that Dad would be expecting people there by now; the knot in my stomach just seemed to double in size. Glancing out the car window, there about fifty yards away, is a row of pine trees, whose boughs hung low enough you couldn't see anything past them. I quickly took in this new information, acting calm I simply stated: They are just behind the trees, I'll walk over, and find them. At this point I’m pretty sure my dad had second thoughts about what he had agreed to. He quickly pulled a U-turn, heading over to the side of the park that I had indicated. Arriving on the other side, he again saw that no one was present; turning to me he told me something like: This doesn't look very good. After a short pause, he concluded that I could go over to Elli’s house to figure things out. The ride to Elli’s house did not contain the same kind of lightness, that there was earlier. I knew the sound of the engine far too well. The driver would be a high school junior named Scott, with a graduated passenger named Bennet. I didn’t even need to see them pull in all the way before the color in my face disappeared. I knew that I had to get out of the gas station soon, or hide. Not wanting to alarm Elli at the danger we were in; I simply asked if we could hurry out. Elli just finished up the last bit of business she had, as the charger finished parking.
