“Wow,” was all I said when I saw my friends I haven’t seen all summer standing at my door. I practically hung out with them every day until my hectic summer schedule came in, so it felt like I haven’t seen them in forever, even when it was only about 2 months. It’s funny how you would think summer is the time of relaxation and hanging out with friends everyday. As for me, I stayed a busy bee, and did many activities to pursue my dream of becoming a triple threat, and getting my name known.

One day, I wasn’t doing anything in all of the weeks I’ve been so busy, so it was a bit odd when my mom kept on nagging me to get dressed and ready for the day. It was weird she said that because she knows that when I have days I do nothing, I am so determined to stay in my pajamas the whole time, and just lay around on the couch watching YouTube videos. In the midst of me sitting around and playing games on my phone, the doorbell rings. Suddenly, my mom calls for me, and tells me someone is at the door for me. I kept thinking who it could be, and I guess you can say I stayed terribly confused. Also, I was very hesitant to go to my front door, since normally no one is at the front door for me without me knowing. My mom got impatient with me, since I was taking too long, so I just decided to man up and answer the door. The day before was my 13th birthday, and I had a really good day, except some of my friends didn’t text me anything saying happy birthday.

I was a bit disappointed, but then I shook it off, because I’m not normally one who over thinks those things. I open the door and there they are, the friends that I haven’t seen and the same ones who didn’t text me anything. It felt unreal to me they were there, and I was ecstatic. Speechless, I could only stutter a few words, and all I managed to say without sounding like an alien was, “Wow.” They yelled out surprise so loudly, I literally jumped back from shock. After, they gave me a humongous poster saying happy birthday notes. Different inside jokes were written on it, and it made me feel incredibly happy when they put a lot of thought into the poster for me. Of course, when I answered the door, one of them was recording me making a fool of myself as I could barely manage to say a few words. We watched the video of my reaction, and it was hilarious! All of us were laughing and having a good time, and they later explained to me why they didn’t try to keep contact with me the day before, and it was because they wanted me to be very surprised when this moment came. My friends were most definitely right, what they pulled off in fact did surprise me. We decided to go out to eat since it was around noon and it was a good chance for us to chat. We went to a local Italian restaurant, and the food portions were gigantic. All of us ordered way too much than what we could eat, and it was hilarious when we kept asking for takeout boxes from the same waiter. After all our

Another hot summer in Idaho at another family reunion. I chased after my dad and brother’s cloud of dust; reving my ATV’s (all terrain vehicle) engine I whipped around the land my great great uncle homesteaded on. My confidence grew as did my speed until my wheel caught and spun me right into a log that pierced through the fender and into my leg. It was the first time I ever blacked out. When I came too a few seconds later I was alone; high on the trails of the Sawtooth mountains, blood gushing from my shin.…
