What I did over the summer was awesome. I did tons of different stuff but the most important thing I did this summer was getting arrested. I got arrested for being out past curfew. I was spending the night at my friend Abby’s house and my friend Linsey was there and their two friends Zach and JD came over too We decided to go to Linsey’s house and JD and Zach couldn’t come because Linsey’s mom was sleep. We went to Linsey’s house for an hour or 2 and then got hungry and it was like 12:00 already and JD and Zach met us at McDonalds’s then we got kicked out of McDonalds because apparently were too big to play in the play thing so we left and went to Zach’s house. Zach brought us some food then we walked around for a while and as we were on our

I was eight and in California visiting with my vegetarian grandparents. We were being seated in a vegan restaurant for a late lunch. Tucked inside the glossy menu was a printed brochure regarding the meat industry. I stared at the cow on the front, its big brown eyes staring out at me. I scanned the pamphlet and read the information about the cruelty in the food industry.…

The rain began to softly drip onto the girl ’s unkempt black hair as she walked along the weather-beaten sidewalk. Only a few rays of sun pierced the gray sky. A few cars passed by on the road; an old rusted Ford truck, a white minivan, and a shiny car with a green “Sheriff” across its doors. All three cars pulled into the school parking lot.…

There is nothing greater than helping your grandparents on their large ranch in the middle of Kansas. That was what I was thinking as I hopped on my grandmother Patrice’s horse named Watermelon. My mother told me, my grandparents owned a gigantic ranch, so I instantly wanted to come out and help them and learn how to care for cattle. They had a bunch of cattle on their farm that they have to care for everyday. My mother decided to have me assist them with caring for their animals.…

All my life I’ve struggled with not feeling fulfilled in Loveland, Colorado. I never feel truly inspired, motivated, or happy. Driving down 29th street for what feels like the 29th time that day, I look at the McDonald’s I’ve ate at since childhood, I watch all the less than intereging Honda Civics and Ford Tauruses everyone in Northern Colorado seems to drive, and I look at the drab Loveland High School building and I’m reminded of how much I hate everything it holds. Everything I see, I feel like I’ve seen it before…

It was the day of my 8th birthday, February 19th, 1992. I woke up at an unpleasant time of 6:39 AM. A man's figure was dashing out the door; I presume it was my dad rushing out the door to go to work. Last night he said to me, “Euripides, do you know why I go out into the cruel world and protect complete strangers?” I shook my head...…

5,187 people died due to brain cancer in 2012, and my dad was one of them. One of the souls stolen from this world before their time. The hospital unearthed it in an MRI, dug it out of a tranquil soil. Sitting by his hospital bed, I’m not able to find the forte to look into his eyes, because I’m terrified that I will catch the moment the warm glow in his gaze will be replaced with an emotionless, lifeless stare.…

A subtle twitch of the jaw muscles. Or large rows of teeth showing, much like a third grader's on picture day. I believe in a smile. On November 11, 2005, I was smiling as my plane soared 40,000 feet up in the air.…

It was a chilly Oregon October evening, no different than the normal weather, and my mom was holding my brother close to her, holding my hand tight as we boarded the small jet that would take us to Nevada. The cold wind stung my face as the warm smiles from the flight attendants greeted me. The 1 ½ hour flight didn’t effect me, as I was a young, easily entertained toddler. Keeping my brother happy was my top priority. Oh how I loved that boy.…

Whenever I think about my childhood I picture my mom waking me up, dropping me in front of my school. She tells me that she will come and pick me up at 3:00. In my memory, she always smiles and tells me that I will learn something new every day, and she will not leave until seeing me go pass the school gate. At first, I didn’t know why she did that. As we walked home, I recounted my realistic nightmare to Grayson, who listened with attentive ears. “And that was when I woke up,” I finished off the retelling as we opened the front door to our house. Grayson blinked in surprise, and exclaimed, “That would make an epic story!” I rolled my eyes, and teased him “Of course that would be your final verdict.”…
