Personal Narrative: New York Beach

The aroma of the ocean, as well as fried food and sunblock encapsulated my sense of smell as I passed by the House of Blues on my left, and the beach across the street and past the parking lot on my right. This was my all time favorite place to be. York Beach, Maine. I was visiting for a week in the summer with my friend and her family as our last summer hoorah before having to go back to school. We spent our days on the beach, gallivanting around downtown, buying tickets at Yorks Wild Kingdom to ride the ferris wheel, and ending our day by going to Fun-O-Rama to play arcade games. I got a phone call from my mom, just like I did every other night I was away for, and I happily picked up, excited to tell her about my day. Not only because I lost someone so important to me, but because I was now afraid of losing anyone. I was entering the 8th grade when this happened, so my mind was still young. I was scared of change. Transitioning into high school was hard. I didn’t want to form bonds with people, just to get them ripped away from me. Since that day, I have learned to accept change. I no longer fear losing someone close to me as much as I did, because I have learned that things happen for a reason. It may not be to benefit me, but life is all about getting over bumps in the road and saying “I got through this. I can get through anything”. I am facing this problem again, as I apply to colleges and prepare myself to make new bonds. However, I am not as scared this time. I know I have the strength to get through it. I know that I need to reach for my goals and do whatever it takes to get there. My last day could be any time. All that matters is that I lived every day of my life up until that last moment, and that it was reaching towards my goal. Not only career goals, but life goals as
