Personal Narrative: My Interview With Dr. Pumpian

When it came to who I would interview, I searched for someone who has actively made an impact on my life, and in turn also impacted all those that attend Health Sciences High middle college. As the chief Education Officer and President of our school, he whom I interviewed is a man of many qualities. As said by himself, “I have many labels that describe me and who I am and my culture, but first and foremost I identify as a member of the human race and a Pumpian.” If you couldn’t tell already Dr. Pumpian can be a comedian, but he is also a dedicated educator. After high school Dr. P immediately studied special education and researched the need for everyone to grow and progress in homes rather than institutions, to learn with and from peers and become important contributing members of society. Throughout his years in education he has continued to advocate for the youth and has shifted HSHMC with the help of other staff to be most conducive to the lives and learning experience of his students. Even when asked how he may be disappointed by our society he connected it to his career and said, “We give in too much to fear mongering and I am an educator because education can destroy fear of ignorance and the unknown.” He advises others to be “...more conscious of others, and use the do no harm pillar as it should affect our everyday actions.” Today Dr. Pumpian continues to help others and aspires to take others to and through their own aspirations/ dreams.
