The interviews consisted of three different individuals and their personal leaderships styles. The answers provided how they see the leadership of their choice and put it into practice. The three women that were decided upon are one’s that are established leaders; that had quite the learning ladder as they grew within themselves.
Preferred Leadership and Why You Chose It
Pam Marquis
Pam decided to make her personal style of leadership was as she stated, “A blend of situational and servant leadership” (P. Marquis, personal communication, April 25, 2017). There were times when Judith would use the authoritative or democratic approach also. These styles, along with the different personalities, helped me achieve success in my department. “The affiliative style it helped me place emphasis on each of the team members in building morale, and feel good about working together as a team. The contributions were given was at a higher level, and viewed as immense importance to the team; creating harmony and trust” (J. Weeks, personal communication, May 4, 2017). Judith uses caution in this style, as it fails to correct poor employee actions. These ladies are a perfect example of how leadership in the healthcare profession needs to be implemented as a team approach, and with decision-making issues. Also, the professionalism for not only themselves, but for the organization they were representing while performing their duties.
Secular Versus Transformational
Pam Marquis
Pam stated that secular leadership is not a comfortable position for her. She indicates that it is not about her, and finds it hard to brag about herself and her ‘accomplishments.’ Pam explains she is a fixer, coach, mediator, and a mentor. Our facility is about empowerment of the staff and team members; a voice at the table is an expectation of those in committees; not a self-serving environment.
In transformational style, is one Pam can relate to; she enjoys piloting ideas that support the organization to change the footprint of nursing. “I rely on the strengths of others to help springboard ideas to action; even ideas from personal staff” (P. Marquis, personal communication, April 25, 2017). Robbi
