Staying is what makes us love, and love is what gives us hope.” Two of the most important characters in the adventurous book are Sir Percy Blakeney and Marguerite Blakeney. Sir Percy is a lazy, wealthy man who uses multiple disguises to help save French aristocrats from being beheaded. Marguerite, Sir Percy’s beautiful wife, is not told about this secret role her husband plays. The role is known as The Scarlet Pimpernel (SP), a mysterious figure who puts his life in danger in order to save others. Later on in the novel, Marguerite finally realizes that this heroic figure is her own husband and faces multiple conflicts. Marguerite is torn between her loyalty to the SP and …show more content…
His main goal is to capture the SP and have him beheaded. He met Marguerite while she was walking back to the tavern and asked her to help find him. When he first asks she says, “Whoever the man may be, he is brave and noble, and never would I lend a hand to such villiany.” (Orczy 69). At first, she refuses to help him. He was so desperate for the identity that he began to blackmail Marguerite into helping him. “Find out who he is, and I will pledge the word of France that your brother shall be safe.” (Orczy 89). Instead of sticking to the historical record, the film applied a nineteenth century conception of Romance to Bertrande’s relationship with the imposter she believed was her husband. This also acted as contrary to the legal vulnerability that Bertrande faced as a woman in the sixteenth century. Her focus had to be a peaceable marriage, taking maximum precautions to avoid accusations of adultery on one hand and a threat to her life and the life of her child on the other. Vigne may have thought that to represent the shifting weight of the charisma and initiative towards the fake Martin and the actual historical context would make the plot too complex. In the satirical novel, “ Dealing with Dragons” by Patricia C. Wrede, the disobedient and self-reliant Cimorene refuses the typical expectations of her family and the rest of civilization. Due to the pressure and constant reminder of how “it’s simply not done” Cimorene flees her dilemma and finds shelter with the dangerous and ferocious dragon, Kazul. Cimorene was justified in ignoring the expected social norms of Medieval society because Cimorene could overlook her life, create an impact on other princesses, her judgement would be altered, and she would gain a better respect for uncanny creatures. To begin, Cimorene could further explore the subjects that were not studied by traditional princesses and would receive an advantage when using…

The window in which she gazes at is the newfound freedom with which she is presented. While she looks as the window, Chopin inserts explicit language to describe Mrs. Mallard’s thoughts, “’ Free, free, free!’” Mrs. Mallard is no longer the woman “afflicted with a heart trouble,” but “a goddess of victory.” A situational irony comes to place when Mrs. Mallard does not react to her husband’s death in the way women are normally perceived to react. This irony reveals Mrs. Mallard’s desperation for freedom; she was content with her husband’s death if it meant regaining her freedom.…
