There is a feeling of connection between the three of them by the way they are all looking at each other and the cross. Although I could find no documentation on this, I feel there is also a symbol of the trinity in the three flowers to Mary's left side. The flowers are very prevalent and are connected to the figures in the painting by having the same color that is in the Virgin's shirt. It is also speculated that the water in the background symbolizes the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist. The fact that Mary is barefoot in the painting indicates that she is walking on holy ground.…

The Virgin (Mary) held a cross in one hand, but also the heart of Jesus in the other. The bishop of Nantes found the painting to not be to the standards of celebrating the joyous triumph of their faith and therefore quickly regarded it. Many of Delacroix’s religious paintings were regarded as offensively individualistic or risque. Delacroix had an extremely hard time trying to make the painting to Nante’s wishes. There had been several changes and redone sketches before the finished piece.…

He places the figures right up on the picture plane very close to the viewer; this allows the viewer to see the intimate moment between the female saint and the Christ Child. There clearly is a sense of three-dimensional space. The recession into depth is deep; mountains seem to be very off in the distance from where the storm is approaching. The figures in the space are given volume and occupy much of the…

The composition of the scenes in which religious figures appear, also serve as a visual technique to portray religion as powerful and include it as part of the nationalistic project. In Salón México, there is a scene that shows an image of the Virgen de Guadalupe at Mercedes’ rooms. When the image of the Virgen de Guadalupe is first shot, the camera focuses on a small flower from a low angle view; later, the camera zooms out and moves the frame from left to right. The juxtaposition of the small flower to the religious image enlarges the scale of the illustration of the Virgin and highlights her potency. Moreover, the lighting from the small candle at the bottom of the image creates a feeling of hope.…

When you walk into a church you may realize that there are serval paintings, but what you may have not noticed is their significance. The Nativity with the Prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel is a piece of art history which uses iconography and religion to create a narrative. The Nativity is not only a piece of art, but it also is an altarpiece. Titian used the size and shape of his painting to emphasize that God is the most powerful and promote the idea that pious and holy people rise to heaven. At the bottom of the painting, the viewer observes an apostle with his hand stretched out and pointing at the angels carrying the Virgin Mary to God. This apostle is what draws the viewer’s attention and promotes the observer to then look upwards to the angels and cherubs lifting the Virgin Mary to heaven on clouds. After seeing the angels lifting Mary on the clouds viewers are drawn to the Virgin Mary’s outstretched arms that then encourage them to look towards God. God at the top of the work has his arms outstretched encompassing all of the world inside of the painting within his arms to represent the idea of piety and heaven.…
