For any human to exhibit qualities throughout their lifestyle, one must transcend in certain aspects of their nature. Everyone is born with a different character or personality and not everyone exceeds in all of the same categories, however; I would place myself among the four characteristics of scholarship, leadership, service, and outstanding character as some of the qualities where I excel.
I have always been a very studious person, and I take pride in my achievements in the classroom. I was also raised to believe that my best is an A, so when I got my first B it was not something taken lightly. I try to remember that if you put your mind to something, then you can accomplish it, which reminds me of the quote by Mike Farrell, “If you try to do your best there is no failure.” This saying is not only applicable to school matters but also to most anything. I am a very involved person, and I was especially involved at my former school, Oak Grove in Hattiesburg, MS. I was in numerous clubs and activities including: Centerstage Showchoir, Golden Spirits dance team, Beta club, First Priority and FCA leadership team, etc. I was also heavily involved with my church, Temple Baptist, where I lead worship for the youth group, and On Your Toes dance studio, where I competitively danced. Being a senior in showchoir is a challenge! Many of the underclassmen look to you for advice or seek help when they need it. My leadership skills were also pushed last year and this year for “Dancing with the Teachers”, which is a show the showchoir puts on early in the school year. We are split into groups of about 6 or 7 out of the 40 or so members, and then we must select a teacher to be in each of our groups. We, being the seniors, then have to create a mix of songs and a dance to perform in this show. It is something that can be quite stressful at times, especially when school does not slow down to accommodate your needs. While showchoir is a huge part of where my leadership lies, I also must step up in church as leader. Because I lead worship for my church I am also an example to the children that attend and anyone else that may be of influence. This is such a weight to have on my shoulders, but I feel as though it makes me a better person and pushes my limits of being a leader in my community. My community has always been something that I strongly care for. Growing up in such a loving community had always made me want to give back, so I did as soon as I could! I have participated and lead so many
