National Honor Society Leadership Report

Being nominated to become apart of the National Honor Society is a huge honor. You must possess many qualities of an outstanding student including leadership. To me, a leader does not have to be the smartest student in class, they have to inspire others. A leader positively influences them to follow their actions and behavior. In school, leadership is a necessary role needed to help guide followers in projects, class discussions, behavior, as well as many other things. It is important to have these kinds of people to set the right direction to accomplish something as a team. Without leadership, there would not be anyone to step up and take the authority. Leaders stand out from followers because they possess specific character traits which are needed to help motivate others. When I think of a leader in school, I think of someone who focuses on the task at hand, who steps up to take charge, who can involve other students, and who can be trusted. During my freshman year, I participated in teaching in the cheer clinic. I was assigned certain younger kids and taught them cheers and chants for football games. By standing up in front of the little kids, I lead them through the motions and set an example of what it should look like. I showed characteristics of leadership by remaining optimistic and not getting frustrated with the younger kids, and also by the responsibility of making sure they each knew the cheer and by watching over them. This is one example of how I showed leadership at school. While being apart of a group project in class, I like to take the initiative and give advice on how things should be done.
