Narrative Essay About My Nursing Experience

Improved Essays
The summer before fifth grade I went to the Children’s Hospital for an upper GI scope. I was very afraid because I have never done something like that and I didn't know what was going to happen. The nurse in the surgery room was explaining what they were attaching to me which made me feel better about everything. The nurses were asking me questions so I was distracted and would talk about fun things. I am very appreciative of those nurses that took care of me that day. This experience opened my eyes to what nurses do on a day to day basis. They really cared and were concerned for my comfort and well being. This experience helped me realize I was interested and curious about the healthcare field. My goal for my career is to make a difference in people’s lives and to help people who are in need. As a nurse I am able to provide help to someone and be the person they need.
I went to a Health Care camp this past summer where they took us to different places and showed us a variety of different careers. During this time we had injection training which sparked a love of needles for me. This is when I realized I wanted to work with needles and that the healthcare field was the right one for me. In every department we went to in the

I was able to sit in on two shoulder and two knee surgeries. I observed the nurse anesthetist, the RN, the orthopedic surgeon, the physician’s assistant, and a surgery tech. I loved being in the surgery setting and that the anesthetist has the opportunity to use needles. I really enjoyed that the nurse anesthetist monitors the patient's vitals and keeps them safe during surgery. I decided that I should challenge myself and broaden my goals by becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I have already completed my Nursing Assistant Certification this summer and I am looking forward to starting work in the healthcare

My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. After we were done with her morning medication, I went to one of her patient whom I was assign to by Mrs. Natasha to perform mini mental survey and general assessment on the patients.…

I also decided that this was what I want to do for the rest of my life; I want to help people on the outside to mend the inside. In addition, the advanced math and science involved in being an anesthesiologist greatly influenced my decision, as I am extremely passionate about both subjects. This path seems perfect for me and what I want to accomplish. I hope that someday I will be able to help someone as much as that CRNA helped my mom. I hope that someday I will change the lives of people who are in pain.…

I admired the nurse that took care of my aunt up to this day and hold them in high respect. I invested hours in their office whenever I visited my aunt in the moments of her surgery or to pick up her medicines. Few years later, I had been volunteering at a local hospital, this made me fully realize the hard work nurses put in their work line. My overall experience with the nurses that I encountered was positive. In my senior of high school, I took a course on health and human anatomy.…

When I was a child and a lot of times during my adolescence I had several moments of indecision about the things that I wanted. From the simplest to the most complicated. And although it was hard to choose what to write or what flavor of ice cream to buy, I was always sure of one thing: I like to help people. That's why I chose nursing as my career to college because this was a way I found to realize my dream; being able to help my fellow man when he needs it most. Care, protect, guide and support anyone who needs, help others to face their fears and challenges, it is very rewarding!…

I didn’t want to become a CRNA because of the amount of money they made, it wanted to become one, because I had a great encounter with one while I was at the VA hospital having a procedure done. We discuss job satisfaction and how he got to where he is now. Through out the whole procedure he was right by my side explaining what was going.…

Preparing for this exam was unlike any other exam for me. I have recently accepted a job at Easter Maine Medical Center, as a nursing tech, and the hours of orientation have been challenging to balance with my studies. My new job has required even greater time management than I have previously implemented. I worked a thirteen-hour shift the day before the exam, worked immediately after the exam, and then completed an online midterm for my socio-cultural nursing class that evening. Although I have not received my exam grade, I felt very prepared and confident due to my strict time management.…

I took the Certified Nursing Assistant class my junior year of high school, which had me working in a nursing home my fall semester and a hospital my spring semester, two experiences that exposed me at an impressionable age to what a career in medicine exactly entails. The following year, I took the Pharmacy Technician class in order to branch a little out of the medical field and explore pharmacy, but upon completion of the course, I felt that a career in medicine was the best for me; from my Pharmacy Technician experience, however, I learned valuable skills about working in a workplace with other bright minds in close proximity, which would prove beneficial in any career in medicine. As a phlebotomist, I often see the best and worst things that can happen in the hospital.…

In the nursing field there are over 100 areas to specialize in. This large quantity of options makes it difficult for a young adult to know what he or she would like to specialize in and work with. There are two major ways to explore and find out where one’s calling may be, clinical experience and shadowing. The shadow opportunity was very enlightening. I was able to learn about a new floor of medicine I was not very familiar with; while shadowing a nationally recognized award winning nurse.…
