I would love if colleges all served gourmet meals, but it isn't worth taking possible financial aid out of a school's budget. When fresh food is weighed against allowing someone to receive a college education, education wins.…
Jared is also a senior who doesn't eat on campus often due to living off campus. However, if someone with a meal plan is willing to pay for him, he will eat at the cafe. Otherwise, he states that he avoids campus dining due to the quality and price of the food. He constantly reiterates how he feels that the prices are marked up and would like to see a change in prices. He also comments that during certain hours of the day, the cafe gets very crowded.…
Anthony, you make very valid points on the importance of staffing and how it has a direct impact on the patient’s care. Adequate staffing is very important in every department. When a staff member is out, not only can it affect the patients care, it also places more responsibilities on other employees. The employee is force to wear many hats that can sometimes become overwhelming and cause inconsistencies in the quality of service being administered to the patient. Staffing inadequacies can cause a delay in the timeframe in which a patient is treated.…
Nevada Restaurant Association is a non-profit organization, which makes the accounting quite different from other organizations. To get the details and more specific information regarding the financial aspect of the organization, I interviewed my supervisor Scott Olson, who is a Director of Accounting and Administration in Nevada Restaurant Association. To cover the main aspects of accounting and finance of the company, I have divided my questions into three groups: reporting procedures, payroll and annual budget. After I talked to Scott, I conducted a brief research on how other 5013c organizations manage their funds. Reporting procedures Nevada Restaurant Association has no food costs, but reports include labor cost.…
Purpose There are many groups that are specific to a topic, yet not all of the groups will be considered as a discourse community. Discourse, according to Dictionary.com, means “communication of thought by words; talk; conversation,” and community is a social group that has members. John Swales, a professor of linguistics and best known for his genre analysis is the creator behind the six characteristics that determine if a community is a discourse community. A discourse community follows Swales’ six characteristics: share common goals, has a form of communication, a form of feedback, genres, a specific lexis, and has a level of expertise all within the group (Swales 25).…
RADIOLOGY AND NUCMED STAFF: The staff education office sends regular reminders of mandatory training requirements. The VA Central Office (VACO) and leadership monitors compliance via a metric to measure percentage completion of the required online and in-class courses. The facility and the VISN can get a lower rating if staff members do not complete their assigned training. Let us all do our part and remain current and compliant of required education classes.…
Should Southwest have closed campus lunch? Open campus for a lot of years has been students favorite hour of all classes. Every year, open campus gives students ways to buy their own food. Especially, when school lunch isn’t their favorite. Therefore, open campus isn’t all just about lunch, it's an hour where students can choose what they like to eat and where outside of school to fill their stomach and enjoy theirself.…
However, many college students are broke and deal with these inconveniences on a daily basis. Not being able to afford things is a way of life in college. Furthermore, the jobs most students do find pay minimum wage and cannot sustain constant trips to the mall. The average college student eats frozen dinners and Ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner, not expensive restaurant food. The wages average students earn from their low-income jobs mostly go towards rent, tuition and groceries—expenses many college athletes on full-ride scholarships never have to worry about.…
According to the National Restaurant Association, food prices continue to increase, jumping more than 5 percent in 2014 and nearly 25 percent during the last five years. Wholesale food is getting expensive and the cost of food at restaurants is increasing as well. A major shift in food prices can alter a worker’s wage. Due to the expensive rates at restaurants, people do not want to eat there. Therefore, when customers won’t come, there might not be any tips for the workers to receive.…
College students pay numerous fees to attend and receive a degree from their university. Due to these incurred costs it is understandable that money can be tight for some students because of the multiple fees and charges they pay. One of the costs that has been controversial for college students is the cost of food offered on campus. Some students could argue that the cost of food is too high, and that the quality of the food does not match the costs of the food. Evidence from Nate Nkumbu’s article “Campus food costs around the state” shows that students are paying too much for food and are not receiving the quality that they are paying for eating on campus.…
Summary “Low wages, small workforce leaves booming BC restaurants without chefs” was written by Linda Givetash on October 14, 2017, published by the Toronto Star. The article focusses on the restaurants in British Columbia that are struggling to find staff as a result of a high cost of living, regional “mismatch” of skills, low wages and rising business costs. The demand in the food industry is increasing but workers in the restaurant business are decreasing. The cost of running a restaurant has raised, leaving employers incapable of raising workers wages. This has resulted in a lack of incentive for those applying.…
In the world of business, there is two sides to every corporation. On one end is the consumer side and on the other end is the producer side. For the producer to be able to hire the bare minimum number of employees to run the business, they must have enough incoming revenue to pay off their wages. If the minimum wage was raised to $15 an hour, not only will this affect businesses, it will also impact the job market and the everyday lives of Florida residents. Minimum wage in the state of Florida is $8.10, if you were to be paid any less than the minimum you would be able to file a lawsuit and be compensated for all your lost paid work hours.…
Fast Food Nation: Final Exam 1. Schlosser paints quite a dire picture for how teenage workers are treated in the fast food industry. He describes how teenage workers are force to work long hours, even 12-hour shifts, after school and on the weekend, often in robbery-prone conditions. To make matters worse, the fast food industry is process-oriented and requires very little learned skills which lessen the teenager ability to negotiate working hours, salary, or others working conditions. Schlosser noted how the part-time nature of fast food work, and the high turnover rates also gave the workers little negotiating ability (p. 75).…
A problem related to some aspect of college life, would have to be the food served on college campuses. It is a problem considering that there is little nutritional value in most of the food options offered. It is also extremely difficult for students to prepare their own meals on campus, they have to first find food to make, figure out how to make it, and then find an open kitchen that the students can cook in. Furthermore, several of the food options in the Dining Commons are high in calories and various numbers of the food available seem to be frozen and not quite fresh food. Another struggle of eating on campus every day is that the nutritional facts are not stated on any of the products and all of the options are expensive.…
Throughout history, schools and colleges all over the world have taught students during the week and closed on the weekends. Back then, it was a normal schedule and nobody thought it could be changed in any way to be more productive. In today’s society, universities have the option to have classes only four days of the week, instead of the average five. This new and prominent idea is gaining popularity from students and teachers worldwide. The four-day bell schedule is an innovative procedure that offers more benefits than detriments.…
