Personal Narrative: My Trip To Haines City High School

The situation I encountered is an experience I will not forget. Today it feels as if it was just yesterday, I went to Haines city high school. I attended the school all four years; I wouldn’t say I was a bad student. I always attended school but when it came to getting serious in class, I took it as a joke back then, I took everything as a joke, life hadn’t hit me yet, I was dumb and I didn’t realize at the time what consequences my actions would have.

For example, senior year, I was eighteen at the time turning nineteen and most students would take senior year as crunch time to get everything done. I had three years of make-up work to do I barley passed any of my classes my senior year I wasn’t even considered a senior due to the fact that I didn’t have the credits required to be a senior. I was down by two credits. I was considered a junior my senior year, once I found that out it completely destroyed me from that point on I didn’t even care about school. Instead of getting my things together, I just went the total opposite. I didn’t do any work in class and when I would do assignments I would be like as if the sky was to fall like Chicken Little. I think when I started doing my work was about a month into school almost ending I didn’t stay like I was supposed to since I was a junior. I left with the seniors; I didn’t go back to school after that. I began to work full time

However, when I started my new school there was numerous of students, nice staffs and teachers, but overall nobody that I knew. My first day starting school at Oak Grove High School appears to happen three years ago.…

All of the students, except one or two super scholar, in my class got lower grade at the second midterm. By the way, the super scholar didn’t keep the “high way” so long, they also got lower at the third exam. After the semester in the high school, I talked with my mom and teachers several times about my feeling, but they just told me that was my problem and “take things as they come”. I didn’t believe them, so I made some change in the following semester. I was not going to be the “chickabiddy” anymore.…

After almost four years I have found that my friend circle has became smaller and smaller. High school not only makes you find yourself, but matures you for the real world. My freshman year of high school, I was one of the shyest, most innocent kids there could be. I was so afraid of the upperclassmen and the “mean teachers”, but who wasn’t? I did not have siblings or anyone that had just graduated like some of my friends.…

I just turned sixteen going into my junior year and I realized that most of my friends had their licenses but I really did not care all that much at the time because I just was not interested in driving. It was close to November and I was told to do Driver’s Ed at the school or online. I signed up for it online which gives you one year to complete and have to pay fifty dollars. If Driver’s Ed was not completed in a year, you will have to repay the fifty dollars and start all over again from the beginning. Junior year was over and I still was not driving into my senior year of high school.…

My senior year came and I was in the best shape of my life but, the first week or two I just felt like not going forward and playing for Shawnee mission west anymore. I wasn’t myself I didn’t care about the team I didn’t care about myself either I was barely getting by with my grades and the screwed me because I missed the third and fourth game of my senior year because of grades. Then when I was good to play I was showing up to practice late and skipping because I wanted to. But, after all that nonsense I was accused of taking a wallet out of my teammate’s locker. My main focus was now only on academics because I had nothing else to do. Not being in cheer my sophomore year of high school really put a damper on things. The end of the first semester I met a boy who occupied my time, but when he had golf, practice or other things I was left at home with nothing to do once again. When we broke up I realized so many things I should have known before. I should have done cheer this year because I would have achieved so much more.…

Five Years Eighth Grade Moving has always been difficult for me, and being a navy brat didn’t help any. Eighth grade year I told my parents that I wanted to stay in Virginia and finish high school in one school system. I decided this after I realized I had spent all but kindergarten in a different school and in middle schools case, a different state for all three years. That same year they had all the eighth graders packed into a hot and stuffy auditorium to sit and listen for over an hour about the different diplomas high school had to offer them. I’m not sure who thought this was a good idea, since only about a handful of us where actually interested in what they had to say, while the rest just saw this as an escape from class.…

I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, graduating from High School in 1980. Although the school that I attended was not a deficient school, but it left a lot to be desired. Never having been pushed to learn more math, science and English past a certain year, for generally the girls is a great detriment. By the time that I hit the 10th grade the counselors let it be established that I had finished everything that I was required to in those areas, so throughout the final years my concentration in DECA, which gave myself several more credit hours than average classes. Therefore, by the time that my senior year rolled around I was allowed to leave school for work by 10:15 a.m., receiving additional credits for my work at a paid job.…

I did not like school throughout elementary, middle and the beginning of high school because I felt like no one pushed me or had any faith in my education. When I was a sophomore in high school I changed my entire outlook on my education and became studious. To learn material I had to use resources outside of school and take responsibility for my education. I began to realize that without education I could not succeed and I would just be another person who graduated from Graham High School, the school with very little potential. I began to earn good grades and I got involved with clubs, sports and I even became the student body president of my high school.…
