Hi, I’m Joanna I go to Lake Park High School located in Illinois the current Year is 2016 we are going back to 2006. My best friends now and before were Jackie Arroyo, and Marie Michael s. We were all freshman we really wanted to graduate and go to college. In order to graduate, we needed good grades and focus on what we had to do. School is hard but it is also an opportunity for a better life and the knowledge for a job in our future. My schedule was very hectic. When I got home I did my homework, cleaned, took care of my younger siblings, because my parents were always working, they were trying to support us in every way. I had a lot of homework I got some done at school but I did most at home. I wasn’t a very social person at the time …show more content…
Later on about 2 weeks later we forgave each other, and agreed that this was between the both of us. Later on I started having struggles with my health, in September I got chicken pox, and I wasn’t in school for 2 weeks and I had a lot of homework to do. When it was November, I caught the flu and was out for a week and I had a struggle with being caught up. By the time winter came I barely had clothes for the snow and cold days but I had enough to survive. When we had snow days I didn’t sleep in like the rest of the kids or played games all day. I had to clean up the house, take care of my little siblings, cook for them, and make sure they were feeling good or weren’t sick. I barely had time for myself, and barely went out with my friends because of my responsibilities around the house. When we had a field trip and it cost money I would knock door to door and see if they wanted me to rake leaves, shovel snow, and gardening help if they needed it. We were very poor but managed to have food on the table, a roof over our heads, and a bed to sleep in. Even though I was poor I was happy because I knew that if you wanted something you would have to work for it. My family and I were very hard working when it came to jobs, and school. My favorite subject was reading language arts because I like reading new things, and

I arrived at Rancho Buena Vista High School at 12:00 pm. I waited in a line for about 20 minutes until I reached to the security section. Before we could enter Rancho Buena Vista’s Stadium, we had to be checked for weapons or anything dangerous. I took everything from my pockets and placed them on the table where the securities took a look. Then I was patted down and walked through a metal detector.…

On Saturdays, I would spend time playing with my siblings and cousins running in fields. We would run and play in the fields. We would open watermelons and eat in the middle of the field. In our family, hard work was instilled at an early age. Although I enjoyed life playing and having fun there were times of hard work as well.…

Even though everyone who goes to Shakopee High School knows about this situation, they do not know how much it has significantly affected my life. My life changed last year in so many ways. In some ways this has given me more opportunities, but in most cases this event has negatively changed everything around me. Worst of all it has made me lose many friends, given me a bad reputation, and has made everyone think that I am someone that I am not. People I had never met did not like me, discriminated against me in some situations; but on the other hand, it has showed me who my real friends are because they continued to persevere by my side and stuck with me through all of the tough times.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

What came next after Coach addressed me was what I could have only dreamed of. Hard work and determination pay off, because eventually I earned the position of starting catcher.…
