Personal Narrative: Sayreville War Memorial High School

Before embarking on my high school journey at Sayreville War Memorial High School I was told to join clubs. Sophomore year I attended the September SADD meeting. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions and it is a club that encourages students to confront the daily risks of living in the world today. The advisor, Ms. Corrales, would always pick an issue in society for each meeting and provide us with the best tools to go about handling the issue. During my sophomore year, she invited me to the NJ Regional Conference with our executive board. Regionals was an extremely beneficial experience for me since I was so new to the club at the time. We talked to other SADD chapters about their focal point for the year and how they were helping their community.

Junior year I decided to apply for the Recording Secretary position, which I received. I kept records of the meetings and made sure member lists were up to date since our club was rapidly expanding. It was during this time that I realized SADD wasn’t just a club to stop underage drinking and drug use, but it was a small family. My best friend was the Corresponding Secretary and we both became very close to the Publicist. We all became surprisingly attached as the year progressed. We would meet

Drunk Driving is our focal point this year and we are operating in full force to spread the message of its dangers throughout the whole town. Being a senior is certainly upsetting due to the fact that SADD is such a large part of my high school life. I can’t quite grasp the idea that next year I won’t be a part of this unbelievable club with such authentic people. My school transcript doesn’t showcase this ideology that I possess and I feel that it’s a vital element of who I am as a person. SADD has helped to sculpt me into the young woman I am today and for that I am

I arrived at Rancho Buena Vista High School at 12:00 pm. I waited in a line for about 20 minutes until I reached to the security section. Before we could enter Rancho Buena Vista’s Stadium, we had to be checked for weapons or anything dangerous. I took everything from my pockets and placed them on the table where the securities took a look. Then I was patted down and walked through a metal detector.…

During the sophomore year of highschool, my leadership skills affected our team with outstanding victories. It was 4 O'clock, 30 minutes from the beginning of our meet against Wheeling High School. My astronaut headphones screaming into my ears, impelling me to steal victory from the Wildcats. The clock struck the 6 and it was time to stand on top of the block . The Official Narrated “mister starter” then pressed his buzzer, and I was already halfway across the pool length.…

The week of August 24th was Club Rush week. The entire week I and anyone else interested in the prospective clubs gathered around all the booths and looked into our options. Surprisingly, most clubs seemed less an investment in hobbies and fun, and more invested in humanitarian organizations. Red Cross, UNICEF, Tree Huggers Club, and one specifically focused on helping our local youth. This seemed to be a nice reflection of all the kindness the students at Chino Hills had to offer.…

I honestly did not believe that I was nor did I carry myself as a leader until I got to Wilson High School. In middle school, at church, and within the different programs I am a part I was given leadership positions and was “successful” in them but Wilson High School and its community have taught me what it truly means to be a successful leader. A large part of my high school career has been dedicated to the cheerleading program here at Wilson High School. This is the aspect of my life that has developed my leadership skills such as communication, patience, innovation, flexibility, planning and much more. My coaches, teachers, and teammates have all pushed me to become the leader that I am.…

My time at Barnegat High School has helped me to become who I am today and will most defiantly impact what I will do in the future. The teachers and my peers have all been an influence on my life and during the four years that I spent at the school, I have done some things for the school and the community as a way to thank them for giving me the opportunities that they have. It was they who pushed me to keep trying and striding to succeed and without them, I would not have accomplished what I have today. One of the things that I am most proud of doing is helping to bring new clubs and activities to Barnegat High School. This year, with the help of other students and advisors, a new club made it into the ranks of the diverse sea of clubs and groups that already exist.…

I have worked to help develop engaging programs that promote SADD’s message to our students. I have helped increase the enrollment in our SADD chapter at ALHS. I recently led “The Chain of life Project” which asked students to write a pledge to not do drugs. This activity helped us bring awareness to the growing drug problem in our community. Many students have verbalized feeling relieved to have positive peer pressure of SADD because it is leading them to a healthier lifestyle.…

I walked briskly on a summer morning on the sidewalk to my college campus, Yale! I had been accepted in the middle of my Canby high school days because of my excellent grades, leadership skills, and my confidence in speeches. One other person had been accepted in my grade at that time named Tanya, but rumor has it that her father works in the staff and influenced the principal's decision with some ‘green paper’. Ever since 5th grade, she has taken my ideas into her projects, wowing the teachers and getting perfect grades. One time in middle school I caught her fumbling through my locker searching through my binder to find my lab notes during lunch.…

I went outside to find the neighborhood kids playing on the streets. Most of these kids went to my school, Highville Ridge Middle School. Many of the kids had their siblings with them because most moms usually make the oldest take the little ones with them so they can all get out of the house. Anyways I didn’t have to worry about that because today my brother and sister were at their dad’s house. The sky was a dark shade of grey today and it looked like it was going to rain soon.…

I am Elizabeth Taylor, I am a senior at Mission Springs High School. I am seventeen years of age. Early morning before the sun rises, I make my way to the bus stop a few streets down from my old, broken down house. As soon as I step out I regret shutting the door behind me, wanting to run back to my room and hide under the covers. Regretting every step I take; taking every step as carefully as possible. My hair turns to strands of iscles as the winter breeze fights its way through. I trudge my way through the freezing snow that covers every inch of the ground.…

I joined DECA. Even though I initially joined for reasons that had nothing to do with the club itself, I ended up thoroughly loving DECA. DECA became one of my favorite parts of high school. Every year I excitedly anticipated the state competition where I could spend a few days attending fun conferences and wandering around the heart of Minneapolis. I took a chance in joining DECA, and through it I have learned about myself, have learned to appreciate marketing, and have been able to attend numerous events I otherwise would never have gone…
