Personal Narrative: My Junior Year In High School

Improved Essays
In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports. One day when I went to check my grades, I saw one that I was not very ecstatic about. It was my first D and it made me not only devastated but had the feeling of failure. It was a long day and night thinking about where I could have went wrong, how I was going to show my parents and what I was …show more content…
This class was Honors Chemistry, it was extremely difficult and I tried everything I could possibly do to try to be successful in that class. I did extra homework, staying after school, and staying up remarkably late just to try to understand a concept that others seemed to fathom so easily. The feeling of failure from not doing strong in this class made me feel as if I could never understand this class. The feeling of failure for anyone is not an enjoyable feeling, it mostly can cause a stress on your life, when you know you are able to succeed. I decided to take the initiative and try as hard as I can to bring my grade up with the final exam. One of my friends had the same exact class I did and I decided to ask her how she was doing in the same class. “Katie! I almost failed chemistry completely this term what do I even do?!” I said this to her in a choked voice. Katie said, “Olivia everyone has a subject that they struggle in, mine is science as well, but that means I just have to try just as hard as everyone else.” I start to become serene. I take in everything she

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

Friday was the big test day. When I entered the classroom, I overheard some of my peers lament about how tired they were from staying up so late trying to study. I was confident that I would do great, and yet a small part of me was still nervous that I would fail. When our instructor handed out the tests only the sound of pencil scratching paper could be heard. When we completed our tests we were allowed to leave, so when I finished mine I was out in a flash.…

During my junior year I experienced failure. I had taken 3 AP classes and I was in cheer at my high school, and trying to figure out a balance between the two was difficult for me because it seemed like cheer took up a lot of my time and in the past other two years it had, but I had managed to still do well in my honors and AP classes. My junior year was another story, I struggled a lot at the beginning of the school year, and most of first semester was spent with me having an F sometimes more than one, and that was a failure to me because I had my heart set on going to a four college or university and I knew that if i had an F i wouldnt qualify.…

But the feeling that I felt when I got my report card and saw the letter A on it, was an incredible feeling of accomplishment. The low point had to be my two years spent in middle school. I didn’t care. I didn’t want to study or do my homework, so I didn’t. My teachers knew that I was capable of so much more than straight B’s.…

In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

Have you ever expeierienced failure?I have in fact I did not too long ago. On January 9th the 3rd quarter started for students at Mountain Pointe Highschool and one of those students was me. The day wasnt a bad one I was going from class to class each one giving little to no homework at all until I went to 6th period Mr. Shiflettes class which wasnt a crapy class I had a few friends to talk to and the teacher (Mr. Shiflette) was a cool laid back type of guy but once he gave the class an essay to do on the first day of the fourth quarter I was furious. Before January 9th or the start of the third quarter we were on Winter Break which was nice you could sleep in, stay up late, and by the end of it celebrate Christmas with your family so when the quarter started i was in a lazy mood because we had just gotten back from break.…

Journal 1 (A situation that I shared empathy with another person and how it worked out) Today, in another one of my classes, we received our marks of our midterms that we had written a couple of weeks ago. As the teacher was handing them back, I was really nervous and afraid of the mark I’d receive, because I did not feel confident with how the exam had gone. The teacher finally handed mine back and I was so relieved and happy; I had passes the exam. My friend sitting next to me then received her exam back and she looked devastated. She turned to me and asked how I did and when I responded that I had passed, she seemed a little embarrassed; she had failed the exam miserably.…
