Purpose and Aspirations

My initial and only purpose when I enrolled into the course was to be a more competent presenter in delivering business presentations, but little did I knew I will achieve so much more than this. In the first day of class, we were told to list down the characteristics of our ideal persona, a projection of our aspired self. When I was asked this question, only one person came to mind, Jenn Im, a YouTuber that creates her content around fashion and lifestyle. She has the combination of characteristics that together create my ideal persona, which is a caring, genuine, intelligent, and unique individual. She projects this through her choice of words, clothing, and how she carried herself in her videos. Her likable persona

Like many professors, instructors, and organizations in UBC mentioned before, stepping away from my comfort zone is the only way to grow and become the best version of myself. Despite having heard this advice many times during my time in Sauder, I personally believe completing this course has been the only academic achievement that really pushed me to go out of my comfort zone. Throughout the term, I have learned many valuable lessons through the concepts that are thought in class, however, I believe the main takeaways are the things that are not listed in the slides and not said in class. These are the things that I discovered through my downfalls. I realized that to make that strong stage presence and build a connection with the audience, I have to find my own voice and believe in myself to connect with others. Reflecting back, I have always doubted my ability to build connections with people in my life, which has affected the relationships in my life negatively. With this, I am now determined to believe in myself in building that connection with people, whether it is in presentation or In everyday

When entering the course, I was naive to the true essence of theatre. I believed it to be simple and self explanatory, but in truth it is a complex and beautiful way of acting out a multitude of scenarios. Throughout the course, I read various texts, and watched a variety of plays. And both of these helped to shape my knowledge and understanding of theatre. Now that I am exiting the course, I can say that I have both a better idea what theatre truly is, as well as, I have a stronger appreciation for the arts as a whole.…

My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

rather a heroic action. Linking this to our class text, Animal Farm, one such animal who followed blindly and was unable to see recognise the evil intentions of Napoleon was Boxer (Orwell, 1945). He showed how when followers do not step up to evil leaders, they suffer from toxic leadership. From the book, the Art of Followership, I understood how followers like Boxer in the bid to become good followers must “speak truth to power”. Boxer could have become a heroic follower and saved Napoleon from his own death from destroying the old farm.…

The main reason why I think that HACC is the best choice for me is because of the cost. The rates per credit are around $250 and that is for in-state residents. The total cost for a commuter would be around $13,750 for a student who is full time, which means they are taking 12 credits per term (Stager). This price of $13,750 includes the price of books, supplies, food, and transportation and it is an average price for all HACC students (HACC.edu). I think that I could easily cut some of the cost by trying to buy my books online for a cheaper price or even eating at home to save a lot of money.…

While in this course, I have acquired many skills by presenting and doing the many other activities we, as a class, did. I have acquired skills such as interviewing skills, personality skills, and presenting skills. This course has taught me to not be afraid of who I am and to stop being so shy because it decreases the quality of the presentation or interview. I also have gained skills such as, being bigger in presentations, being business presentable, leaning forward in interviews, knowing the business I am applying for, asking questions about the business, maintain eye contact throughout presentations or interviews, and even practicing. While presenting each of these presentations, it has taught me that if I do not practice my speeches before I present them then it is noticeable and takes the attention away from…
