Presenting Course Reflection

While in this course, I have acquired many skills by presenting and doing the many other activities we, as a class, did. I have acquired skills such as interviewing skills, personality skills, and presenting skills. This course has taught me to not be afraid of who I am and to stop being so shy because it decreases the quality of the presentation or interview. I also have gained skills such as, being bigger in presentations, being business presentable, leaning forward in interviews, knowing the business I am applying for, asking questions about the business, maintain eye contact throughout presentations or interviews, and even practicing. While presenting each of these presentations, it has taught me that if I do not practice my speeches before I present them then it is noticeable and takes the attention away from …show more content…
The goals I created were to help me become a better speaker and presenter. At the beginning, I made some goals such as: stop being small while presenting, look more professional when presenting, practice presenting on my own before the presenting time, lose the fillers, and do not look down if I have notecards. In mid-semester, I created goals such as: keeping my hands away from my face and hair, stop fidgeting, make sure everything is cued and ready, and do not use fillers. Some of these goals I have met, while others I do sometimes but not in every presentation. For instance, in most of my presentations I made myself stop being small. In the first presentation, I kept my arms locked at my side and I even stopped in the middle of it because I was super shy and nervous. That goal has been achieved for the most part but could still improve. I can make it through presentations without stopping to regather myself but I still have that sense of nervousness especially on my last persuasive presentation. I have achieved the looking more professional goal I created at the beginning of the

I have never had trouble talking in front of large groups or presenting, in fact speeches are always projects I look forward to in class. However, I still believe I could work on being more effective when delivering my speach. The two main problems I have seen wish my speaking is first, I always start talking too fast which makes it hard for the audience to understand me. Second, in school sometimes we are forced to give a presentation about a topic we are not always personally enthusiastic about. I need to improve my level of enthusiasm even when I am not interested in the topic because it effects the ability for me to convey my points to my…

When it comes to speaking in front of people, I get nervous. Whether there are a few people in the room or a huge auditorium full of people. It has been an obstacle for me throughout my life. From show and tell in 3rd grade to big projects in high school, I always became flustered. I’ve always been scared of not being good enough, until one day I decided to make some changes.…

Once I’m able to do this, I think that skill will carry over past the class and help me in my specific career path which is one of the most important things about the class to me. Another idea that the book mentioned that I think could be good for me is using movement to minimize anxiety. “You don’t have to stand perfectly still behind the podium when you deliver a speech. Walk around as you make some of your points. Movement relieves tension and helps hold the audience’s attention.”…

Two things that I need to work on are my presentation skills and fear of letting others down. Though I don’t have trouble speaking casually in front of a small group, I get extremely nervous when giving a formal presentation in front of a crowd. I have challenged myself throughout the year to better my presenting skills through various class presentations and by joining Lindner Ambassadors, which gives presentations to high school students and markets the Lindner College of Business. By allowing me to speak often in front of students, I will gain great practice for presenting in front of larger groups, which will challenge me to become a better businesswoman. Through being a PACE leader, I will learn to better present myself which is an important aspect in the business world.…

Not only will students learn how to effectively speak, but they will learn other skills as well such as critical thinking and message development (Mottet). With the experience and skills gained from this class, students would feel more confident speaking for their other classes, such as making a presentation in front of the class, or simply contributing to class discussion. When a study was done on whether a public speaking course would help students become less anxious, the results showed that the students' speaking anxiety lowered after having taken the class (Hunter et al. 130). Furthermore, a study done by Hollis Glaser and Shereen Bingham showed that when students took a public speaking class they felt more comfortable and connected on campus and in their classrooms, increased their sense of family and belonging on campus, and helped their college success rate (60-64). A public speaking class would also help students become better listeners and further help them in other classes (Massengale).…

Class, Currently, setting goals that are realistic and measurable is something that I really struggle with. One goal that I had that I am just now seeing come to life is my goal to get back into being apart of the worship team at my church. When I first made this goal I loosely told people, and I never really had a lot of motivation to do it quickly. Since I didn't have a specific plan on how I was going to achieve this goal it took me over 3 months to get started and be able to be apart of the team. If i would have had more of a sence of urgency to achieve this goal it would have taken me less then a month.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

I strongly dislike public speaking, but I am working to improve my skills in that area because I know how much it’s needed in the workplace. There were many of my classmates who are graduating at the same time as me and it seems like we all have a lot to improve. We need more practice and more willing to put what we have learned in the past into practice. I know that during our college careers, we have heard from different people about what we should do when we are giving a presentation, but it looks like we did not take it seriously and now we are facing the consequences of giving a presentation like a high school student and not as an almost professional…

Another key learning moment I had was learning that I should let go and not let the fear of public speaking hold me back. I believe learning that helps improve confidence. The reason for that as the books explains that it is a reason to channel all the nervous energy you have into a great speech. For example, if I compare the informative speech with the speech before it which was the family history speech I could see improvement with confidence up in the front of the room and also I wasn’t as nervous as I was for the family history speech which I think showed in the fact that I had a little more confidence as I was speaking. In addition, I also learned that notecards aren’t a way of having your speech in front of you but instead a tool to help guide you as you speak.…
